The note 8 from my understanding isnt the highest tech tablet/phone out there, but what I wanna know, as a proud S4 owner, how does it compare to the S4 in terms of lag and also against the Tab 3 8 inch?

I have the S4 and the Note 8 and its a combination I really like. However, as much as I like my Note 8 there is noticable lag. Sometimes it just freezes for a second or two. This is not something I've experienced on my S4 at all.

Thanks Haal, I can deal with a little lag, and Im primarily using this for school, but Ive decided on the Note 8 for the SPen and am heading to pick it up right now.

The Note 8 lag started with a software update a couple of months ago. It was lag free out of the box, so hopefully Samsung will fix whatever they broke in the next update. But the lag is only mildly annoying.

I have a S4 and a Note 8.0. I don't see any differences in things as smootheness an performance. Both devices have no lags (Note 8 ist a WiFiVersion with 4.1.2).

The Tab3 / 8 doesnt have the S-Pen (and only a dual core). I thought this would be some gimmick, but learned otherwise. Its a real killer feature.

This is starting to drive me nuts. Now there are periods where things grind to a halt and even after I clear memory and apps. Think I'll take advantage of Best Buys silver member status and return this before my 60 days are up.

Yeah? You could try the Nexus 7 and see if you like it better. I still really like my Note 8 and have noticed that it freezes less since the last update.

I have the old Nexus 7. No lagging.

I too have the old gen nexus 7, with no lag, at least under normal circumstances. There are one or two apps that may get the better of it. 4.3 made a very noticeable difference.

Tapatalking on the N7....

I like the 8....don't want to return it. But earlier this evening I just turned it off because it was too frustrating.

What launcher are you using on the Note 8? I'm using Go Launcher and it performs really well. A new launcher may reduce your lag.

I'm using plain ole Apex. But the problem was there with the native launcher. Unfortunately the are no substitutes for the 8. I don't like the new 8 inch Tabs because of the dumbed down processor. And the iPad mini is just a money grab from the Apple masses for a screen that has unacceptable resolution. The retina displays have been out awhile. Don't like there prehistoric OS anyway. The 10 inch Androids are just to awkward to hold IMO.

Oh, I agree. The Note 8 is a good form factor and though the resolution is 12x8 it still looks good. You could try returing the 8 you have for another in case your issue is specific to that one device. Especially since you have Premier Silver and its added flexibility (which I do indeed love).

that is exactly my opinion

I'm using the Note 8 without any launchers and I have never had any lag. I hate to admit it but it's a great all in one solution. Even though I have the 5100 I'm so impressed that I'm still looking to upgrade to the full 5120 version. This is by far the best tablet in the 7" to 8" category.
