I am trying to bluetooth Note 8 to LG X Charge which is sharing it's wifi internet via bluetooth. I have an old Moto X that is able to pair to the LG and then in the Settings menu for that pair, you can rename the connection & select "use for internet access".

However I am not seeing that on the Note 8? I can only rename the paired connection. I can share internet via bluetooth FROM the Note 8 but not the other way around.

The LG is on Android 7.0 and Note 8 on 7.1.1 (Both from Xfinity Mobile). The Moto X is on 6.0

Bump.

Can anybody check their Note 8 when paired to another device. Do you have the option to select "use this pairing for internet access"? Maybe it's hidden in a menu I haven't checked or it's removed from 7.1.1 or Samsung phones?

I can't do exactly as you ask, because I don't have another device capable of a cell data connection. What I was able to do, however, is connect my Tab S tablet via bluetooth to my Note 8 and share its cell data connection with the tablet. When connected like this, under Setup > Bluetooth, I can select the gear icon to the right of the paired tablet listed there, which shows me options for the paired device. Those options include renaming the connection, unpairing, and Use For Internet connection sharing, which is an on/off toggle. Sorry I can't test pairing with another device with a cell data connection.

Thanks for checking this out leerandall but if I'm understanding you, I think you tested things the opposite way of what I needed. In your example, I'd want to share the tablet's cell connection (I know it doesn't have) TO the Note 8. And then on the Note 8, when you select the gear icon for the tablet, there should be option that says Use for Internet Sharing.

However, would you be able to test using wifi? Connect your tablet to wifi and then bluetooth tether that wifi connection to the Note 8? That should basically be the same thing I would think

I uploaded a screenshot for reference. Where I circled is where the use for internet access option is on my other phones but not here on the Note8

With my cell data connection and wifi both turned off on the Note 8, and bluetooth turned on on both the phone and tablet, nothing happens when I select the tablet under paired devices on the phone. No connection is made. When I attempt the connect to the phone from the tablet via bluetooth, it tells me it cannot do bluetooth tethering while connected to the wifi network (on the tablet).

OK it sounds like I'm experiencing the same thing. The fact the Note 8 won't connect to the tablet isn't weird? Shouldn't it to that? I would think if I can get it to do that then under the gear icon, maybe then, the internet access option will open up.

Am I missing something here?

Bumping again

Can the Note 8 not be paired to another phone so that it can use that phone's cell/wifi connection?
