Note 8 Oreo Update

Re: AT&T Oreo Update just came in

... individualized message ringtones (they're no longer available).

Wait, what? We can't set individualized notifications for separate contacts in SMS in Oreo? That's crazy talk. Why would Android take away customization abilities?

Android didn't take away customization abilities. It works in other SMS apps. Samsung has to fix theirs.

That gives me flashbacks to Microsoft Windows Phone Updates that would often remove more functionality than add.

Hope Oreo is a smooth and seamless transition on Verizon. Nougat has been excellent on the Note 8.

24+ hours with Oreo... not a single hiccup or and just running as smoothly and responsive as can be since I’ve had it.

Could be my imagination or maybe just only 24 hours into it and still under that “new OS feeling”... but anyone feel their FPS working so much better and faster than before the update? Iris scanner?

I feel the FPS has never felt that impressive hit/miss for me... but it hasn’t failed to unlock for me in last 24 hours and seems to read and unlock faster.

Anyways, satisfied with update so far.

Iris scanner feels MUCH faster to me.

Re: AT&T Oreo Update just came in

So the issue is exclusively in the stock SMS app?
I don't know, but some apps have it, so it can be done. My guess is that something changed in the way notifications are implemented and Samsung would have to update to accommodate.

Hey folks! I'm using the Exynos version of Samsung Galaxy Note 8 in India. And I've just received Oreo update.

Yeah Nougat has been great on the note8. If I can't get anything else from Oreo....then I just want the same experience as I do now.

Re: AT&T Oreo Update just came in

Having owned a Windows Phone, I've never lost functionality because of an update.

Oh my, I could hjack go on and on about that one, especially from 8.0, 8.1 to 10. I think MS used it as a test bed and were constantly adding and pulling features based off of metrics.

But but back to Note 8, this Oreo update feels really subtle ochanges. I was impressed by how fast the OS upgrade ran.

I chatted with Samsung Canada support today.

The Oreo update for the Note 8 in 🇨🇦 began yesterday and will roll out in batches based on the base band version of the phone.

Do I think Oreo matters? of course not... if it did, Samsung would have put much more urgency into releasing an update.

I just downloaded Textra and custom text tones for individual contacts is fortunately working fine on it. I've used Textra before, just was fine with the stock app.
Personally I find it ludicrous that this feature was removed as a basic function and I now must go 3rd party. I moved to Android several years ago for customization. Then again, what does one do. One finds the workaround, and at least Textra is fine as a messaging app and gave me back my custom message sounds.
