Note 8 Oreo Update

Re: AT&T Oreo Update just came in

I always prepare myself to do a factory reset after a OS update if any signs of wonkiness whether it iOS or Android. If I can get through a couple of weeks without issue I'll probably leave it alone.

Is it recommended to factory reset after the download and install?

Re: AT&T Oreo Update just came in

same here on FRs. if things are wonky after several cache clearings then I do a factory reset.

I read that project Treble is supported on Oreo and above...but, only if the OEM's decide to support it. AFAIK, Samsung is not supporting it. Not sure if this decision will continue to delay updates or not.

I'll wait to install it to see what you all think. ;) The S9+ Oreo seems a little disappointing with all the little things they've taken away.

project treble should be supported on ANY android device that are launched with Oreo unless I have misunderstood something

Recommended by whom for whom? Its usefulness depends on factors such as how much setup work you'd have to do afterward, how much spare time you have for doing it, and how often you've gotten problems after updating without a reset.

As far as I know, Samsung and the carriers do not recommend resetting after an OTA update. Some individuals recommend it; some recommend against it; some recommend deciding according to the above factors; and some make no recommendation.

I did not, and have a perfectly smooth running upgrade. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I just updated to oreo and loving it. I think Samsung skin already have some of the oreo features before oreo. I definitely see and feel a speed bump up! Wow. Love it. Liking the new keyboard look too.

Re: AT&T Oreo Update just came in

I believe on the S8 Oreo the ability to clear badge counts on the long press menu is removed. Is this still the same for the N8?

Cheers

Re: AT&T Oreo Update just came in

for example? this is important because that's what I'm concerned about and why I don't want to take it yet.

Well, on the S9+ in the Messaging app they took away the ability to swipe a text message to call the person, which I used a lot. A few other things that I didn't use much was the ability to change the background and text color and the ability to set a ring tone for a specific person. The ringtone for a specific person for when they call is still there just not for text messages. Badge notifications are hit or miss on the S9 but someone in another thread says the badge notifications are fine on the N8 Oreo beta. I just hope the Oreo experience on the N8 is better. Performance wise I don't notice a difference between the N8 with Nougat vs the S9+ with Oreo. Both are real smooth and snappy.
