Second time this has happened since Pie upgrade. Random occurance.

Have a Star Trek Samsung Theme overlay.

Have phone set to turn off every morning. This is to force me to remember to restart phone which clears cache, re-register with network and all that other good stuff.

Phone was off like it was supposed to be. Input security pattern to open. Phone displayed "starting phone". Began process of starting.
Part of the home screen wallpaper displayed and notification bar. But that is where it all stopped.

Home screen was blank.
Notification bar seemed active, but dropped down behind home screen wallpaper!

Holding power button showed no prompts.

I eventually asked Bixby to restart the device. Which was successful.

I will be contacting the theme developer because I think this issue has something to do with how the theme home screen draws during start up.

Thank goodness for Bixby because otherwise I would have had to do a factory reset start up !

try clearing system cache from the cache partition.

*Switch off your Samsung Galaxy Note 8
*Press and hold the Power, Home, and Volume Up buttons simultaneously
*Wait until you see the Android logo on the screen
*After the phone vibrates, release the Power button but continue holding the two other buttons
*Once the list of option shows up, highlight the “Wipe Cache Partition” using the volume buttons to scroll up and down the menu
*Select “Wipe Cache Partition” using the Power button
*Choose again the “Reboot System Now” and use the Power button again

Are you sure the theme is compatible w/Pie?

Usually themes need to be updated when a major OS upgrade occurs. Not only was this an OS upgrade but also a complete change of the UI.

Theme developer replied and is curious to see if the issue happens again.

I simply reapplied the theme, and so far so good.

I think I may do the system cache clear outlined above. Thanks for those steps.

I just don't want to end up doing a complete factory wipe and restart.
