Note 8 to Note 9. Bump in Battery life?

Don't know what the warranty would be on a used device.

Unless Sammy changed their policy, I bought a Note 8 used from swappa back in May 2018. I was able to send it in under warranty to Samsung repair. THey never asked if i was the original user or not. Feel like that matters more for the carriers than Samsung themselves. Thats for manufactureres warranty. My issue was the deep discharge where if battery went to 0, it died permanently

Those are some impressive battery usage numbers mustang. Wow. Sorry edo, can't help with SOT data since I'm not a heavy user and I'll occasionally plug my phone into a charger.

Is that with sync and gps always on?

Don't know. The attached pic is from one of mustang's reply. Was just impressed that he got 2+ days of use on a full charge.

For me, I only enable GPS when I have a need for it, like running. For sync, I do believe it's always enabled.

I had the Note 8 for 1.5 years, averaged 5-6 hours SOT. Phone corrupted by Jan update, VZ sent me a complimentary Note 9, after we went 50-50 on a new factory battery from Ubreakit, before the corruption. I was very content with Note 8. The difference between Note 8- 9.... Note 9 7-8 hours SOT. Slightly faster. Stereo speakers. If VZ didn't comp me for the Note 9, I was OK with the Note 8. It's not that big a upgrade from the 8 to 9.

Note 9 with Pie has ridiculous battery life even with heavy usage.

For me yes.

The Note 8 has a 3300 mah battery. My previous phone, an S7 edge had a 3600 mah battery. I found the upgrade to the Note 9,with its 4000 mah battery a significant improvement.

what about these figures where it appears the Note 8 is actually better at battery management?

I made this thread in XDA:

And the people there told me both phones are about similar:

Loved my Note 8 and didn't plan on getting the Note 9. But really liked the bigger battery, sound and Bluetooth S Pen (holiday deal pushed me over the edge). Glad I made the switch, battery is better for me. I use the 9 exactly how I used the 8 and find myself with about 15% more battery at the end of the day.

I never had the note 8 , my current phones are Note 9,s9+,s8+,1+6,pixel3xl,pixel2xl, battery dead in my HTC m8,note2,note4,nexus 5xiPhone X

I have too many phones activated just for the fun of it. Because of this, my phones always last me 2-3 days on each charge with 4-5 hrs screen time on each.

I have a Note 8, Note 9, "a few" S10+, and they all give me the same 2-3 days, 4-5 hrs screen time.

The Note 8 gives me just slightly less battery life then the other phones but it's not that noticeable. The Note 8 was bought on release day and still lasts like it was new. I use them on T-Mobile because T-Mobile seems to double my battery life then if I use them on AT&T and Verizon no matter what phone I use.

Same here , tmobile and unlocked gave the best battery life . I put my Att sim back in my note 9 again to test out but it loads so much bloat lol.

AT&T has the worst bloat out of any carrier. They've gone way too far with all the DirecTV and tech/help apps and worthless games. I finally gave up AT&T because it's just too expensive and I get no service at my house. T-Mobile all the way now.

I know , its really crazy they do that.

So no point in going from Note 8 to 9?

I don't think there are enough differences to spend the money on it today. The display on the Note 8 is just as good as the 9 and the performance is the same in every way. Even if you got the 512GB with the extra RAM, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between it and the model with 6.

Stereo speakers are about the only thing that really stands out about the Note 9 over the 8 that I can think of.

My main push to do it was battery life. and i guess stereo speakers and BT s pen but my main reason to make the move would be the battery

I agree; well said. As mentioned, I came from the 8 and the differences are neglible..or better put, not measurable from my perspective (old eyes, old brain). The slight bump in battery and the stereo speakers are nice though. I managed to get the 9 during the holidays, $400 off, $200 gift card and sold the 8 for just over $400. Would not have switched otherwise.

Anybody here upgraded from a Note 8 to Note 9 and can comment on how much better the battery life is?

The note 8 battery life for me has been dissappointing. I just sent mine in for repair and it is coming back tomorrow looking prestine. I started thinking of selling it in its refurb condition on ebay for around maybe 350 and take a hit and get a used Note 9 with the hopes of getting a better battery as a result.

Is this worth it? The improved camera and speakers is also a plus.
But my main concern is battery life. The Note 9s are going on Swappa for 500 bucks on average

I have a lot of apps for work that always seem to drain my phone. I could barely make it through the end of work-day with my Note9. With my Note9, I don't even have to think about it. The other day I got notified around 5 pm that my battery was down to 15%. I was like, wth? Then when I looked, I realized I didn't even charge it the night before. Two full work-days w/o charging!

I wouldn't say it's a slight bump in battery , it's a big bump. Note 8 3300mah vs 4000mah.

My s9+ had a 3500mah but cant get the battery life of my Note 9
