I'm about to head to futureshop to look at tablets... I've narrowed it down to the note 8 or the 2nd gen nexus 7 that is rumoured to be coming out in the next days to weeks.
Just looking for some advice and opinions! The only upsides I see to waiting are price and perhaps an extra 2 gigs of ram... I don't think the ram would make much of a difference though. I guess the Nexus would also receive updates quicker... but perhaps with more bugs!~

thanks guys.

Personally, I would wait for the next Gen Nexus since leaks have already surfaced and a release could be made within the near future. If you can wait the Nexus might be something to consider. If not, then the Note 8 might be something you want to consider now.

Thank you. I may test the note 8 today and hold off on the purchase so that I can see exactly how the new nexus 7 performs! Hard to wait though!

I had the same question too. I went to futureshop and got the not 8 today. This tablet is amazing. The resolution is good but if you have used retina display in the past you will be able to see the difference. Overall a great tablet. The android 4.1 sucks but eventually the new version will be available.

I caved and picked up the Note 8 too! Hopefully I don't regret it. I think it is top of the line as far as Android tablets go.

The main reason to get Note 8 is how useful the spen is for you. I wanted it for that specific reason and 4g LTE.

I was in the same situation at the beginning of the month! I couldn't wait so I went ahead and ordered the Galaxy Note 8. It still hasn't com in yet. My reason though was because I want a really fast processor and it's faster than the Nexus 7. Although if money is an issue I would wait for the New nexus 7. The Galaxy Note 8 was rather expensive at 400$

The Nexus 7 is a MUCH better value, probably a better tablet, but definitely much better at roughly half the price.

Yes absolutely and I thought about holding out for the LTE version of that if there was going to be one. I would have been just as happy with a 4g ATT version. After trying out a Nexus 7 with a stylus and trying out the Note 8, I realize I was willing to spend that premium on the SPen and the features added to the tablet to work along side with it. For a person like me, I am more likely to have buyer's remorse that I bought a cheaper device without the features my heart was set on versus buying a more expensive device and feeling like I over paid for it.

If a person wants to buy this tablet they are going all in on the spen.

Nexus 7 2 has a higher resolution screen, a better processor, a newer Android version, stock Android, and onscreen buttons (plus all that for half the price). Unless you absolutely need an SD card or an S Pen, the choice for the N7 is a no-brainer.

What do you guys think about touchwiz vs stock android ? This is my first Android device so I don't really know what the differences are.

Touchwiz offers more gimmicky features but is also bloated, laggy, and a storage hogger.

Just my opinion ;)

The problem is with the idea of Stock Android on the Note 8 is that the whole point of buying this tablet is the features that drive the SPen.

I had tried a stylus on a Nexus 7 because I was considering buying the refresh. The experience was not the same as the Note 8.

If you want a stock Android experience and do not care about the Spen get the Nexus 7, you can't go wrong with that.

Usually that is the case.

I have noticed that my Note 8 runs better than my S4 even though it has a weaker processor.

I am consistently see more available memory on the Note 8 and I am sure that is a result of having less gimmicks.

I bought the Note 8 TODAY, LTE version.

Thought about it but Pop-Up Video, Multiview and S-Pen are amazing especially on a tablet. This is where Touchwiz shines for anyone who loves watching Videos & Multitasking .

I own the original nexus 7 and I was tempted to upgrade to the 2013 version. I went for the note 8 because I wanted to experience the functionalities of the Spen and I have to say I'm impressed. The resolution still bothers me though, as do many of Touchwiz' s design issues.

I just sold my original Nexus 7 and picked up the Note 8 and love it. For me, the 7" Nexus screens is a deal killer and the Note 8 is the perfect size.

Whoops, the new N7 has the best screen that exists on a tablet now.
