Note 8 TODAY or Nexus 7 2 Soon??

Oh buddy but you are so wrong. You seriously gotta get over the lag thing it's so old and annoying nobody buys that anymore, there is 0 lag with the Note. I actually really like the screen and I come from the S4. Ram is actually the same 2 GB.. Micro SD card slot, infrared, 4600>3950 battery, bigger screen, S Pen and of course LTE. You obviously have no clue of all the software the S Pen posseses. None of which the Nexus have. So yes, I'm willing to pay more for this :)

We're talking about the Tab 3 in these posts. It's a 1.5ghz quadcore exynos with 1.5GB RAM, 1280x800 8.0" screen, no S-Pen, 16GB, no LTE, laggy, "finicky" performance in reviews, can't film in 1080p, materials that are described as cheap feeling (faux chrome, etc), Android 4.2 with TouchWiz instead of 4.3 and is $70 over the price of the much superior Nexus... that means it's overpriced by about $210.

As for "just specs, I want experience"... yeah, having the fastest tablet, the best screen on a tablet and the best software available is pretty much the definition of experience. We're talking performance, not specs. I'm not saying the Qualcomm is better than the Exynos in benchmarks, I'm saying the Nexus 7 destroys everything else (so far, that'll probably change very soon with the Nexus 10 or iPad 5) in real world speed, smoothness and aesthetics. Those things that make the experience. There is literally no reason I can think of to by the Tab 3 that wouldn't push me to the Note 8 instead... and we've already established that Nexus owners view the Note 8 as being extremely overpriced and only long for the S-Pen functionality.

With the subject of the thread being Note 8.0 vs Nexus 7 2013, there is a debate, which we had, and now that we have the Nexus 7 2013 and know how much it killed the market by, it's really just a matter of do you want any specific TouchWiz feature or the S-Pen in order to justify spending $200+ on that pen or feature(s)? Bringing in low end overpriced tablets to the discussion is somewhat silly. Are we going to talk about the Nook next?

My bad.. it's just that the title is Note now Nexus soon? But as for the "expierence" I think the S Pen will blow you away in that factor. Things like multi-window make it such an amazing expierence for school and taking notes and doing homeworks or anything. I agree it is a bit overpriced but I am definately getting my money's worth.

Specs - Wi-Fi Tabs SM-T310 | Samsung Galaxy Tab Even Samsung's website states 1.5GB RAM.
Also, the larger battery is an invalid point, since the larger screen will eat up that battery, and the increased battery efficiency in Android 4.3 will make the N7's battery lilfe better.
And you do know the Nexus 7 comes in an LTE version, right? And as far as the SD card... you certainly need that with all the bloat TouchWiz adds and the space it takes up :)

Yes.

What you just listed are specs.
Software doesn't go under specs; it goes under experience.

What I care about is day to day use.
Even more of a point for the N7 then. The TouchWiz experience is horrid compared to stock.

PS: What destroys landscape mode is the ridiculous black soft button bar that turns a 16x10 screen into a 16x9 screen. Its an unforgivable design. I don't have any problem holding the note or tab 3 8 in landscape. My whole screenn gets used and the home / back buttons are much more conveniently placed -- easily reachable by my thumb.

None of which applies to the Tab 3 8.0.

You're right, depending on what your use case is the Note 8 vs Nexus 7 is an interesting choice and it's easy to respect someone preferring something about one over the other. As for which is a better value, that one is obvious. The S-Pen is really the defining factor in the debate. If you need it, and it's worth paying nearly double for the device, then yeah, the choice is made. For what I do, games, browsing, movies, maps, etc. it's not helpful at all and I don't use it for productivity at all so saving the money and having the better tablet is what I did.

The Tab 3 is not in the same league as either in any way. The Note 8 and Nexus 7 devices are both probably in most people's top 5 device list (Nexus 7 2013, Nexus 10 2012, Nexus 7 2012, iPad 4, iPad Mini, and Note are fighting for those spots on most lists) while the Tab 3 is probably not in those same reviewer's top 10.

True :) all comes down to preferences.

Sorry, I assumed you were talking about the Tab 3 8.0 since the two comments you replied to were talking about the Tab 3 8.0. (no sarcasm intended)

Good lord, not more specs lists.

No its not. You're listing specs. You're defining "best screen" based on a resolution pissing contest. For me the Note 8 / Tab 3 8 is the "best" screen because it is the right size and the resolution is enough.

The screen is bigger. Its a huge difference. Some people find that more important than the other stuff you list. It isn't any more complicated than that.
There is literally no reason I can think of to by the Tab 3 that wouldn't push me to the Note 8 instead...
Then you're not reading my posts because I gave several. It's lighter, thinner, narrower, and cheaper than the note, but gives you the same screen. And it's just as fast for day to day tasks.

I'm not saying the Note or the Tab are for everyone, but for some they are definitely winners over the Nexus.

Just my opinion on the Note 8. The 1" extra screen size was huge in my decision. I went to the store thinking I was getting the Nexus, but it just felt too small to me. I figured I'd give it a week, and if I didn't like it, I could always return it and get the Nexus. Additionally, the S pen was an after thought when I bought it, but has become indispensable in every day use. I am surprised how well integrated and very useful this is. Another major, major feature is having the SD slot, which the Nexus does not have. I have already loaded 20 Gig in music and movies to my SD card. Even if I bought the 32 gig Nexus I would be maxed out by now. I still have 40Gig available on the SD card.

One other "value" thing I am surprised no one has mentioned here, since much of the discussion has centered around that. The Note 8 is still giving out $25 in Google Play credit (same as 25 cash back to anyone who buys apps or games). $50 in WatchNow credit, which is no Netflix competitor, but $50 is $50 and that is a real value. A free year of Boingo WiFi, which is pretty cool if you travel a lot like I do. Also, the 50GB for 2 years DropBox upgrade is pretty cool.

So just in the value side, $230 is great on the Nexus, but bigger screen, S-Pen, SD card slot, and all the throw in's above just for registering at the very least put them in a similar value discussion. After using it, all but the throw ins are absolute deal breakers now in terms of the Nexus. Very happy with the decision I made.
