Thanks for all the replies. I found if I clear the cache the download speeds go back to normal. Still doesn't seem right that the cache effects my wifi so much. I use the optimize phone built in to the TouchWiz software like every day or so. I'll keep an eye on it but it's the only phone in my house acting like this. Also what are you people using for internet that your getting these crazy 200mb + download speeds. I'm using Comcast / Xfinity and getting between 50mb up to around 100 using the same app on all phones.

I have to say that when other apps..that are internet heavy or internet dependent...can affect or reduce your overall performance even with Wifi or mobile data usage..I clear my cache probably once a week if not a couple times a week just to keep a clean running decice

Screen heavy apps are battery killers too, such as games or apps that play video content.

Definitely not usage, I've tried everything, constantly getting network connection errors on wifi, I guess I'm going to find out how difficult it is to deal with Samsung on warranty issues the phone is only 3 months old. Has pretty much become useless on wifi now. I do not even know how to begin using the Samsung warranty and the people at the AT&T store are clueless on how to go about Samsung warranty service.

Than there's the 'wifi connection' window that continually pops up when I'm out in public. But that's much more annoying than anything else.

Wifi settings, advanced - Turn off wifi pop-ups and wifi notifications if you don't want to see it.

Just checked, all notification settings are set to off......yet I still get them.

i have the same issue
but not always
sometimes my note 8 is normal on wifi and sometimes the speed is painfully sickfully slow
i just cant browse anything
while any of my devices are home are great with wifi
i noticed that if i go out for couple of hours and come back , the wifi speed somes back to normal !
any idea ?

On your phone wifi connections check if actually connected fully on both AC 5GHZ and 2.4GHZ. As possibly dropping one, finding other, but not actually signed in. I have not signed in to 2.4GHZ slow WiFi (forget network) as find stability and improved speed from only being connected to one WiFi network.

I was having a similar problem. I was only getting 6-9mbps on WiFi downloads while other devices were connecting at much higher speeds (60 to +100 Mbps). Did all the recommended "cleaning", cleared the cache, etc. The final step was to determine which app was causing the issue.
Turns out it was Bixby. Noticed there was a lot of usage even though I never open it or set it up. You can acces Bixby's settings right in the app, not in the settings menu. After disabling all Bixby functions, my download speed jumped to 99.4 Mbps. Hope this helps others.

The issue is with the wifi band. You should either disable the 5Ghz band or at least have two separate bands 2.4ghz and 5Ghz ones. When you connect note 8 to 2.4ghz band the speed will be much higher. On 5Ghz you need line of sight to have good speed. Many routers propogate both 2.4ghz and 5ghz on same ap name. If not clear ping me..will help out
