Hi, welcome to AC!

Auto click program, what?

If you go to android play store you see many free apps like click assist, auto clicker, tapper etc.
Just try one out.
You can make your phone/your ap think a finger taps on it at certain times on a certain place on your screen.

It is ment for getting high scores in games, but it is very useful to keep your phone "awake" when the photo app is running.

Ahh , I understand now

The issue is exclusive to Samsungs app. It times out after 2 minutes then the phone starts the regular screen time out from there.

The Moment Camera app stayed open beyond 2 minutes and I closed it myself. I tested the Google Camera app it also stayed on beyond 2 minutes, screen shut off at 5 minutes but that is what my screen time out is set to.

Solution is use a different camera app. I'm done experimenting with this.

Also interesting it seems to effect all Samsung phones regardless of age or Android version, I'll assume the S20 is going to do the same thing.

No, the issue is not exclusive to Samsung phones. I have a Moto G Power, and my camera app will not stay on for more than two minutes. It is extremely frustrating to open the camera app, compose a shot, then have the camera app turn itself off because it's been two minutes and I haven't taken the shot yet. Apparently, the stupid developers never considered that some users might be waiting for a specific moment to take a shot, and that it may not happen within a two minute time frame. I'm not a fan of Apple by any stretch of imagination, but their camera app developers obviously considered the fact that life doesn't happen in two minute increments. Having the camera shut itself off after two minutes of inactivity is just plain asinine. It has absolutely nothing to do with the phone display settings or screen timeout settings. The problem is with the Android camera app, and there is apparently no way to override the two minute timeout that shuts down the camera due to inactivity.

Same with me on Samsung Galaxy S10, Android 12, built-in Camera App, phone on tripod, Bluetooth shutter. The Open Camera on Play Store works fine as expected. VAP

I know this thread had been her a while problem still exists in S21 series (all 3), I tested before I bought the phone. I'm hoping downloading a different phone app works.

I have the same problem on my S22 Ultra.

IMO, it's utterly ridiculous that Samsung kick you out of your own camera after such a short length of time, WITHOUT there being any official way to change the setting.

The worst of it is that every time it kicks me out of the Camera app, it 'forgets' my zoom setting. [GRRRR!]

You can change the camera settings so stay on the last setting for most things. Unfortunately the zoom is not one of the settings. It's extremely frustrating.

I thought for sure we could change a mode in dev settings, but keeping the camera open, not being used just shuts off after 2 minutes and there is no direct workaround I've found so far. (starting record, then pausing the video is the best option I've seen so far).

I'll keep trying to see what I can find.

I've been dealing with this stupid timeout issue since the S8 series. Now I have the S23 and it still does the same thing.

The auto click suggestion is a very interesting one. I've had one of those on my phone for ages (Auto Clicker - Automatic tap, True Developers Studio) anyway. I've set it to 2 minutes and it doesn't work but 1 minute does. That's twice the amount of pics to delete. I'd prefer 1.75 minutes but it doesn't do decimals and 90,000 milliseconds has one digit too many (max input of 9999).

Anyone have an auto clicker where decimals or 5 digit, or even 6 digit, numbers work?

This is still an issue as of this date.
Pain in the A$$ when trying to capture in Slow Motion mode on a Samsung Note 20 Ultra
The official Camera App closes after 2+ minutes

I looked into Auto click apps, there are many. The problem is, would be nice (As a temporary workaround) if the Auto click apps launched when SPECIFIC apps are used (ability to assign)
I have to remember to launch the autoclick app first, then the camera. I will always want this when using the camera.

Alright.... So I've read through the thread regarding a solution to OPs problem and I'm somewhat confused as to what the issue is. If OP has a note 9 then he has an S pen and there's a button on the pen which allows you to open the camera even with the screen off by pressing and holding to open camera and press again to start recording, press again to stop when ready. The camera app will need to be set on video and not photo prior to performing this action and will be default going forward until you decide to take a photo. The s pen will need to be configured in air actions as well. See screenshot...
2025 and still using my rooted Note 9 with ViPER4Android-RE v0.6.2
