Note 9 Unresposive Black Screen

The screen on my Galaxy note 9 times out and goes black during a telephone call. The screen then becomes unresponsive to the touch and will only come on when the other person hangs up or when I touch the power off button. I cannot hang up.This happens when speaker phone is enabler or when I have the phone to my ear. This does not seem normal. Can anyone provide me with insight on this? I just got the phone 3 days ago. Any help appreciated.

At first glance, I'd guess a problem with the proximity sensor. Do you have a screen protector or case on? If so, make sure it doesn't cover the proximity sensor, which is right near the front-facing camera.

The proximity sensor shouldn't be active for speakerphone calls, though -- but in that case, the screen is probably just timing out due to your display timeout setting, and you then need to press the Power button to wake the screen again.

Try pressing and holding in the home button position at the bottom of the screen. This should wake the screen up.

Also clicking the power button should wake the screen up.

The screen blacking out during a speaker phone call is normal operating procedure on a Note 8, so probably same on Note 9.
