Note8 gallery not auto rotating pics

Once I've taken landscape pictures on the note I try and view them in Samsung's gallery but they will not auto rotate when I turn the phone. I've made sure auto rotate is on in the settings and I've done a phone restart it's still not working.

I just tried mine in both the gallery and Google photos and both rotate with no issue. I would try a reboot to see if that helps.

3D Accelerometer Rotation is a feature that allows flexibility in how the content is viewed on the screen. Simply turn the device from vertical to horizontal (or horizontal to vertical). The device senses the change in orientation and automatically adjusts to fit the screen.
Camera, album, music player, videos, web browser and many other apps take advantage of this feature.

Swipe down on the Status bar (at the top).
Note The image below is an example.

Swipe down from the top of the display to expand the quick settings menu.
Tap Auto rotate.
Select one of the following:

Auto rotate
Switches between portrait and landscape orientation.
Portrait
Portrait orientation only.

yeah I've already looked at that. thanks. it works if I view the photos in Google photos app. just not in the Samsung gallery.

Open the app manager and go to Gallery. Clear the cache and see if that works. You could also try a force stop of the Gallery to see if that fixes it. If not, wipe the cache partition, instructions below. The cache partition wipe will take care of a lot of weird, unexplainable issues, at least it has for me on my Android devices over the last 10+ years.

Note 8 wipe cache partition:

Back up data on the internal memory.

Turn off the device.

Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.

When the green Android logo displays, release all keys ('Installing system update' will show for about 30 - 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).

Press the Volume down key several times to highlight 'wipe cache partition'.

Press Power button to select.

Press the Volume down key until 'yes' is highlighted and press the Power button.

When the wipe cache partition is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.

Press the Power key to restart the device.
