Note8 vs S9+

My Note8 went from flawless on Day 1 to being one of many that developed a freezing problem while on standby starting in November. I'm definitely trading it in for an S9. The regular S9, not the plus (despite Samsung not treating the two equally).
I had to get a warranty replacement Note 8 about 2-3 weeks ago. Been ok since then. I am interested in the S9+ but want to see it first. Still not saying I would get out of the Note 8.

No Amy, you are not leaving Note 8. That's an order. Top the madness

I don't plan on it but I still want to check out that S9+. Love my note. went through 2 mandatory recalls on the Note 7. Waited a year and went through h*** with phones during that time that weren't measuring up. The S8+ was actually VERYnice. Still went with the Note 8 though as that line just has something about it that fits just right.

S-pen forever!!!

Unless you are someone who changes phone often, then I don't see the point to get a S9+ if you already have a Note 8.

Of course that said, if you still want the S9+, get it for these reasons:

1) I am a camera geek and love variable apertures
2) I take a lot of night shots and my Note 8 sucks at that
3) I hate the finger print location in my Note 8
4) I WANT THE NEW ANIMOJIS, excuse me, AR EMOJIS!
5) I hate my S Pen and don't use it
6) I just don't like my Note 8
I get this inkling that you don't like your note 8? Lol

Jokes aside. My iPhone filled family requests I use my note 8 for pics all the time over theirs. They seem to like the results more than their iphone 6, 7 and 8. Is there another phone you've used with better night shots? Are you just assuming the S9 does better?

Serious questions. Not trying to defend note 8.

For all the complaints I read about the finger print sensor I actually like it. As long as you use it left handed it's in a great spot.

For me, the iris scanner has been remarkably fast. It's about as quick or faster than a pin.
I actually gotten used to it. I can relearn the position if I like the phone I'm upgrading to enough lol

For what?

Def. disagree ... especially with the S9. The only difference now is the S-Pen .. otherwise they're the same thing.

True, but the Note line is still Samsungs king. Expect the Note 9 to be an upgrade over the S9 Plus.

The Note line is geared towards heavy power users. The S line is not. Although the S9 Plus can be used for power using, the Note is with the power user and professional user in mind.

Now when there was no more Note 7 and the S8 Plus came out, yes that was the only thing Samsung had for power users and I bought it. The s line is still geared for a different group.

I will be getting the Note 9 and holding off on the S9 Plus.

Theoretically the S9 will take better pictures than the Note 8. The embedded DRAM in the camera is touted as a game changer in camera tech even before the S9 announced it had it. Sony announced this new sensor almost a month before the S9 was announced. The increased aperture also lets in more light then before so it will be better for low light photography.

Of course however we still cannot account for the software processing, but hardware wise the S9 hsd greater potential than the Note 8.

Well yeah I'd hope the phone that comes out after this one is better... Lol :P.

That's like saying watch the Pixel 3 be better then the Pixel 2.

The biggest gains here are hidden within the SD845 : multi-frame processing. Those other features are incremental, but this will the source of most of the improvements that people will see with the camera. Everyone is finally catching on that Google's now 4 year old approach is the way to go if you want consistently great pictures in every situation.

It definitely has more potential in terms of hardware.

But its software that's probably going to complete the picture. I think Google showed last year how great software can go around hardware limitations and even complement great hardware.

The following shots are shot using the HDR+ port on the Note8. They look pretty good.

Yup, but remember that the software can only do as much as the hardware allows. So I don't believe the changes in the camera hardware is just incremental, especially with the right software.

Nah... MFP takes quality and separates it from hardware. Take crappy cameras and turn them good, good cameras get great.

Those are ALL awesome shots!

I do have an X and Note 8 and both take ok-ish night shots. That said, I don't really take a lot of night shots.

My post was genuinely targeting those who are thinking to upgrade to S9+ from Note 8 - a set of questions one can ask themselves to see if they qualify for the S9+ upgrade :)

J Will in addition to Saki also agrees if you're a Note 8 owner do not buy the s9 plus and wait until Sept for the Note 9. I had no choice buying the s8 plus because the S7 edge sucked big time for me and I switched to the V20 but the V20 I could not stand LCD display and sold it. With the Note 8 I'm able to hold off for the Note 9. The only way I can see getting a S9 Plus is if my phone some how got totally destroyed beyond repair lol. Even this I'd consider maybe buying a V30 to hold me off until the Note 9 then sell it lol.
