Note8 vs S9+

I just got Note 8 in December. I exchanged S8 for it. S8 was just wayyyyy to small for me. So no way swapping. Maybe when Note 9 comes out.

They do get degraded when uploading due to compression being applied in order to save bandwidth.

I'll likely share a proper Google Photos album with better examples, especially in HDR situations

Those shots look pretty impressive to me: vibrant and full of color. The combination of the native camera in Pro mode and the ported Google Pixel software make the Note8's photography game nice and strong. I'm content with all the N8 has to offer .

I am hopeful that many of the S9 features will be enabled on the Note8 via software update. But the camera upgrade looks pretty tempting!

I laugh when people keep flapping between S and Note line. And then laugh even harder when someone says they are upgrading from Note 8 to S9+. Totally different lines of phones. Wish people stop comparing both.

Heh, I upgraded from the Note 8 to S9+ (and previously from the S8+ to Note 8) but yeah I see your point. Having said that, the two lines of phones seem to be converging these days. Previously the Note was where Samsung tried out new hardware and features with their power user customers before releasing them to a more general audience via the S line. Nowadays, it seems like each Note is just an incremental improvement on the previous S phone, and vice versa. I mean, my Note 8 is basically just an S8+ with an S-Pen and a dual camera (though I must say the dual camera is a major improvement).

Generally it would be financially unwise to do what I do. But if you're on something like T-Mobile's JOD program, it doesn't make financial sense to not upgrade as often as possible. You're basically getting to trade in a used phone for up to two-thirds of its retail value.

Don't know how anyone will feel about what I'm going to say. But people need to look into the past and realize that Samsung. May be all fine and dandy in the hardware Dept but keeping there phones up to date with the newest software and security patches is way behind the curb a year and a half to be exact. And Samsung along with the networks are in it only for the money to make sure you have to get the newest Samsung just to have to new software. And buy the time you do get updates for what you already have your another one year behind most of the other device makers. (Pixel, OnePlus, huawai, ) even Apple updates the phones on time. I believe Samsung has a great financial deal with the network providers to only benefit themselfs and the network not the customers.

You have no idea what you're talking about. Have you had a Samsung device lately? Security updates are at least one month behind Google. Which is a lot better than how it used to be. The S8 line is already getting Oreo so all in all Samsung is doing a lot better job than other manufacturers out there.

Yep I have the s8 and the note 8 both still have Android B.C . And all of the other manufacturer are far ahead on software.

Newest software they're behind, but not on security patches. My S8+ is on the February security patch just like my Pixel 2 XL is. As for the newest software version, I feel like you're a beta tester with Google. That can be good at times and bad at times. I feel like the software is always pretty solid with Samsung. Pros and cons.

It’s been different for the past 2 years at least in the US where Samsung’s flagship devices have been receiving security updates every quarter.

It's also been better for carrier branded devices. Unlocked versions seem to lag behind but eventually get the security updates.

I'm going to keep my Note 8. It's been a solid performer for me. I like where Samsung is going with the S9/S9+, so I'm stoked to see what's in store for the Note 9, but for now, I'm still loving my Note 8.

I have never understood all the fuss over the placement of the fingerprint scanner on the back. It took me less than a day to get used to placing my finger in the correct spot and it's worked perfectly.

Doesn't bother me at all now. The finger print sensor on the s9 looks too low on the phone for me.

My guess is the N9 is going to have 128gb storage as at least one update for the 845 version. If not in America, that of course is not an update.

My Note8 went from flawless on Day 1 to being one of many that developed a freezing problem while on standby starting in November. I'm definitely trading it in for an S9. The regular S9, not the plus (despite Samsung not treating the two equally).

Please reconsider:

You already are used to a bigger device

Better camera features

Speakers overall sound a tad better due to bigger chamber area for bottom speaker. Well, that was my impression when listening anyway.

Well seeing as how the Note 9 will most likely follow the S9 ... Does that mean once the Note 9 is out you will forgive that? :).
