In Oreo, notification and alert sounds would play both through the phones speakers and the connected bluetooth device (headset or car stereo), but now, it only comes through the bluetooth device, and if you're not wearing the headset or if your car stereo is on a different mode (like FM) you will not hear the notifications at all.

Is this happening to anyone else?

More importantly, is it a bug or a feature?!

Unfortunately it's not a bug but a "feature"...I asked to the official Samsung Community Forum and they confirmed that.
As they told me, it's for the "privacy" !
I think they did a bad choice....

This is truly horrendous news 😭

I complained via the Samsung Members app, but now I'm afraid it won't do any good. They could at least give us the option to control that behavior!

Would you have a link to that discussion you mentioned?

Same problem here too. I am missing notifications for texts and chats unless I keep my bluetooth ear bud in my ear when I am not using the bluetooth for a phone call.

This is a problem on my Note 9 with Pie also. You can go to the Bluetooth settings for your headset or car while connected and turn off the media audio. This will allow the notifications to play through the phone. It is the only workaround if been able to find so far.

Just missed a phonecall due to this annoying feature (or bug as I want to call it). No news regarding when we can have audio notifications in both connected devices and on the phone itself?

This will not have any effect on the issue. I've been through all the settings. It seems Pie has decided to send notifications the same as media. So you don't have a separate channel to be able to redirect the notifications.
Turning this setting off won't do it?
This is an S9 on Verizon and Pie. Screenshot_20200115-103816_Sound%20Assistant.jpeg

It is in Galaxy SoundAssistant app. Guessing it only relates to wired headset - but haven't tested yet. It doesn't mention Bluetooth.
