This is about my mother's LG G2 from Verizon. Every once in a while, the notification bar will just disappear. It will eventually come back, but you never know when. Any ideas on what could be causing this and how to get it to stop? Thanks!

Go to Settings>Accessibility and make sure none of the options are selected. It's possible there might be a screen magnification option turned on.

There was some zoom option that wasn't checked. Now I'm even more lost.

Is it disappearing on the homescreen, or usually within an app?

Running any alternate launchers? Or any apps that modify the homescreen?

Like I said, it's my mom's and hers is just turned on and logged in. Nothing special.

Hey, you never know--your mom might be an uber-power user!;)

Seriously, though, I'm running out of ideas. When the notification bar disappears, do the navigation softkeys disappear as well?

She says no. She also said that pressing the power button to turn the phone off and then turning it back on brings the notification bar back.

I'm curious. What version of Android is your mother using on her G2?

I ask because I'm using a Samsung GS 4, and I'm having a similar problem only since upgrading to Lollipop 5.0.1. The notification icons on the left side of the status bar spontaneously disappear. The icons on the right side, such as battery, time, signal strength, etc., remain visible. Transient notification icons such as email or messaging cannot be seen when this happens. However, when I pull down from the top of the screen, all notification notices will be visible, but the status bar is still empty. A reboot will bring the missing icons back.

I've not seen many comments about this particular problem. I got to thinking that a specific app may be at fault, but can't be sure which one. I've tried uninstalling selected apps that tend to have notifications populating this part of the status bar, but haven't found the guilty party yet. Have you found the source of the problem since the original post?

She is currently on Lollipop 5.0.1. The issue hasn't reared it's ugly head since she updated to the new OS version.

So, Lollipop solved the problem for her, and created the problem for me. Boy, that sounds like Android in a nutshell. When I was on the previous version, 4. 4. 4, icons would randomly disappear from the app drawer. I could still launch the app by pressing the screen where the icon used to be. Upgrading to Lollipop solved that problem for me at least. All these bugs are almost going to turn me in to an iOS convert.

She was having issues with apps moving themselves around on her home screens and widgets deleting. 5.0.1 fixed that as well.

I am also using LG G2 but on version 5.0.2 and get the black/blank missing notification panel. This happens about once a day lately. The only 2 apps installed in the last few months were Google Keep and Textra SMS. I agree with the previous user's mom... it does come back after shut down and turn back on. But it's crazy having to do that every day. Any updates to the fix?

This is what shows up after reboot.

I remember some old threads reporting similar issues with the status bar. For some people it was a conflict with Clean Master and the problem stopped after they disabled or uninstalled this app. Do you have this app, or a similar one, installed in your phone? Worth a try.

No, I do not have Clean Master on this phone. Thanks for the suggestion.

I have noticed that the blank notifications normally comes up after a screen capture. Over the last several months, I recorded the open apps - when the blank notification bar comes up. And the screen capture is a trend.

Looking forward to additional feedback on this annoying bug.

Here's an update. My phone was running slow so I rebooted. I only opened up Chrome and the black, blank notification bar was there. So I was wrong in thinking it was the screenshots. However, the Google Play Store notification indicated 21 pending updates. So I disabled the auto update AND notifications to see if it will fix it. Of course, I will have to reboot and report back soon ;)
