I noticed that I can increase or decrease my volume on there. Is there anyway I can change that to maybe adjust my brightness like that?

Well, I am afraid but no there is no physical button to increase of decrease the brightness of your device, I don't think that you can do anything about it rather than going over to the settings and set the display manually !

What happened to the quick link to things like the calculator in the pull down?

There is a brightness option for quick settings that cycles through various settings, but it is not a slider to allow any value setting.
