Notification Numbers next to icons (messages etc)

I have a Note 8 and recently lost notification numbers next to my icons, for messages, voicemail and more.
Any idea what this is. I'm running stock.

That's done by the launcher. If you're using TouchWiz, it's probably been changed, because Oreo does its own badging (but dots showing notifications, not numbers showing unread items). You;ll have to run a launcher that does numeric badging. (The paid version of Nova Launcher with TeslaUnread does that.)

Did you upgrade to Oreo? In Oreo, if you swipe away notifications from the notification bar the numbers disappear from the icons. Lots of threads on this.
