Two days ago I started hearing a notification sound when I wake my phone from sleep with the power button light tap. I have no idea how it started but more so, I have no idea how to stop it. It's very annoying and loud, besides. Accessibility shortcut is not engaged.
I'm running Android 6.0.1 1.96.617.2
Thanks in advance for any advice

Have a look in sounds and vibrations, you may have something on. Also look in notifications and see what has permission to beep on wake up... Usually if you pull down the quick menu you should see what the device is telling you about and you can go to that and kill the notifications from there.

Thanks for your reply, Tim. I did that before I came here. Nothing is checked to notify except my mail or texts. The screen lock sounds are not ticked, nor touch sounds. As I said, it started out of the blue and now I want it to go away. :)

Well, we can forget about searching for an answer because as quickly as it became a problem, it has disappeared and no longer gives the notification sound. I'll never know, now. These types of things always make me wonder if there's someone playing with my mind,

Please read on: the creature has returned.

Well, the monster is back. I plug in my charging cord and the notification sound goes off. I wake up the screen it goes off. If I were in a theater, I'd shoot me for making noise in a quite location. I don't find anything in any setting that should be making this happen. Does anyone have any idea what might be making my phone into a monster?
