Notification rington problem moto g6

each time I send a text and delete it, the moto g6 defaults the ringtone/message tone back to default. There is no way to keep a unique tone for my individual contacts. It lets me set it up, but only works if I do not delete a text thread. As soon as I delete, it goes back to default. Help please!

Running Oreo or Pie? Starting with Oreo, there are no more individual contacts text tones, just one general text tone. We have a long thread about that. (SMS Popup will give you individual tones.)
