Notification Sound for text message not working

This is the simple solution.Go to your message app you will see a 3 dots by the top right, press it and it will take you to the message app information, press it and you will see " notification "blocked". Just unblock it and your notification ring tone will come alive

I have had the same problem The cause was Security Master's do not disturb settings. If you use Security Master you may find that Messages is marked with Do Not Disturb. If so, untick the box.

It's the power saver. You have to list the msg app in exceptions which have unlimited access to power.

I downloaded and paid for Textra in order to use different text tones with different people,
It worked great until 3 or 4 days ago, now it has reverted to the standard Verizon tone.
Galaxy S5, Droid 6.0.1
I have not downloaded anything in a few weeks.
Any ideas?

Bro I know this is months old, but I just want to say I love you so much. Been having this problem for weeks now and I knew I didn't do anything wrong. Haven't even configured my security master but it already made changes without asking me. If it weren't for Applock I never wouldve installed this in the first place, but again thank you!!! <3

I was just having this same issue on my Galaxy S6. My ringtone for calls was working, but not E-Mail or Text Messages. After some fiddling around I found a solution (for my problem at least) and I hope it helps some of you out as well.

1. Go to Settings.
2. Sounds and Notifications.
3. Volume.
4. Make sure all the sliders are up. Ex: Ringtone, Media, Notifications, System.

As silly as it was my Notification and System volume bar somehow got muted and taken down to 0, while Ringtone and Media remained the same as before.

Hope this helps some of you. :)

OMG. Thank you I've been dealing with this problem for so long! I don't know why I didnt think of this earlier. I'm so glad I found this post.

Galaxy s6 using Samsung messages. Got visual notification of text but no sound. Worked one day and then not the next. Tried everything I read (that I could understand) all notifications were “on” already so nothing worked. Then just fooling around...pressed and HELD the yellow Messages icon. Little bubble with ”app info” appeared, pressed it. Scrolled down, under App Settings, Notifications was blocked. Tapped it, turned “Allow notifications” and voila! Sound. Now this was AFTER every other spot in settings and other places mentioned in posts already showed allowed. Evidently there about a hundred ways to accidentally turn things off.
