I have a new S5 and notice when I plug in headphones the notification sounds are still audible from the phone speaker. I had an S3 and S4 and I'm certain when I plugged my headphones in the ringtones, etc were no longer audible. The were heard on the headphones along with the music or whatever I was listening to. Any ideas why this may be happening?

Welcome to AC :)
Are you sure you just had notification sounds disabled when headphones were in? I have two different volume levels for system, media, notifications, etc. When you plug in the headphones it is different from when they are out (at least for me). Next time you plug them in, adjust the volume and click on the gear icon to adjust ringtone volumes.

Notification sounds weren't disabled at all. Calls, and texts sounds are audible through the device speaker even when I plug my headphones in. I'm not seeing a secondary volume level setting, am I missing something?

So when you toggle the volume you don't see a gear icon that will show you a few different volume levels?

The option to turn off sounds is there, what he is talking about is when he plugs in his headphones, the speaker is not automatically muted. I'm frustrated with this as well. With my Nexus 5, when you plugged in the headphones, you did not have to turn off notification sounds. So when I am at the gym, I could just plug in my headphones, and not worry about everybody hearing my phone ring while having headphones plugged in, where as with my S5, I have to remember to mute notifications so everyone around me don't hear them.

Same here. VERY annoying. I don't like everyone at the gym knowing that I am getting texts and notifications while working out. I shouldn't have to separately turn that off.......

There is an app called sound about. It does the job. I think it's nonsense that we need a third party app to accomplish this but nonetheless it does. I had my S5 over a month before I realized the sound was coming out of my speaker. I take a commuter bus to work and people usually sleep on it and here I am have text conversations and the whole bus is hearing my notifications.

My phone seems to pause music to play the notification sound but only sometimes. It's so annoying and it doesnt appear to besomething that I can fix

Does this Sound About app block the notifications from going through the speaker only when the headphones are plugged in or at all times??

I`m having the same issue with my note 4 and it`s extremely annoying! :/

Thanks!

I have the same bug since I bought my phone in spring last year. I even updated to Lollipop, but it doesn't help at all.
The Sound About app throws a java phone not found exception or something like that. So that's not really a resultion for the problem :(

Same problem here with S5, I solved it by Persist app, that allow you to set up several sound profiles, that are activated according to the settings, e.g. mute notification, system, ring tone, turn on only vibration - while headphones.

I have the exact same issue with my Note 4. It must be a Samsung hardware issue that they didn't think about when developing these devices.

my S5 has the same annoying issue.
I walk a lot, listen to music, and the notifications not coming thru the headphones is a PITA
