Over the last week or two I noticed that my text sounds were working intermittently. Then they stopped working all together. Now the Gmail sounds stopped working. Ringtones work fine, FB Messenger works fine. I have checked the sound settings and notifications is all the way up. Ive checked the sound file and changed them just to see if that would help., Ive uninstalled zedge and reassigned sound files. Still notifications on text ande gmail is not working.

Any suggestions?

I've missed several texts with this phone. I assumed I just wasn't hearing it for whatever reason (too much ambient sound, phone not nearby, etc), but lately I've been thinking the notification sound just wasn't playing. I don't have any suggestions yet, but I'll let you know if I figure anything out. In the meantime, hopefully someone else already has a solution...

Ok think I have it fixed. It has something to do with the adaptable sd storage and setting. At least for me it did. I had all my sounbds downloaded or at least seen in adapatable storage. No idea if it was keeping it on local or the sd card for sounds. m I made my phone forget my SD card (after backing up files on it to pc) and then put the SD card back in and using it as a external storage I now have my sounds working good now. So something to do with adaptable storage.

I was thinking the same thing until lately. I can be on the computer with my phone laying on the desk and I see it light up with a text message, but no sound. Very irritating. And tonight it is doing the same with Facebook Messenger. I would say they work around 75% of the time. Anyone else having this problem?

I'm not sure, but I think part of my problem is just that my notification sound isn't loud enough. I posted about it here, in the Marshmallow forum. Essentially, since we can no longer set ringer volume and notification volume separately, if I set the shared volume level to what works for a ringer, my notifications are too quiet. Setting it loud enough that I'll reliably hear notifications means the ringer is too loud. Really wish Google would give us back the separate volume controls.

Lost my sounds again. So after I posted what I did to fix my issue which was to move everything off the sd card, and re do it not as an internal storage and have it as external. worked for about 3 days now I have no notification sounds anymore.

Ok, another update - I followed on another website, the motorola one and wiped my cache partition. It doesnt do anything to user data or anything. Sounds are back ... for now.

I have had that problem for weeks now and tried everything. But today I tried again. I went sounds and notification. Then to app notifications. Went to my text messenger and found that my notifications were blocked. I unblocked it and sounds are now working. I don't how it got blocked as you would have to purposely do but I am glad I figured it out.

Update, I am still having this issue. I guess I have just got used to it. I still notice it every once in awhile not playing the text notification or the Messenger one.

I am using the Messenger+ app on my Galaxy S7 and have been trying to figure out a resolution to this same problem for weeks. I finally found the setting under the three dots in the upper right corner of the Message + app screen, choose "customize," "tones" and then make sure you choose one you can hear. Mine somehow had gotten set to "silent" but started working again as soon as I changed it.

I've noticed you have to close the text program to get the notice tones to work.

I think that's a design flaw. There is no setting for reminder tones.

Mine ring once, but if I leave the app open, either the message announcement will appear on the screen or I'll hear a "pop" sound. That's no help if I've left the room momentarily.

If I close the apps, all is well and they ring.
