Notification sounds when on a call

I have an issue with missing new text messages because I don't hear a notification sound when I'm on a phone call. I have had this problem since my S8 and have been looking for a solution. I just got an S9+ and noticed there is an option for an LED light to flash to let you know when you have new messages, emails, etc... Does anyone know of a way where I can have a sound go off to notify me of a received message while I'm on a phone call? My girlfriend has a Motorola G5+ or something like that (not sure of the model) and her phone can vibrate or have a sound notify her of a new message. I would like to have that. Thanks in advance.

Depends on the app you're using. Textra, for instance, does have an option to play a sound while in-call. I don't see that option in the stock messaging app, however, but it should vibrate while in-call I believe.

I'd probably have to have my phone on vibrate because if the ringtone volume is on, it doesn't vibrate or make a sound. I'm going to try Textra and see if that works. Thank you man

just tested mine on a phone call and it works, but the option has been removed from the stock messaging app

I think i may have found a similar option located in the settings for phone calls that allows you to turn on/off such notifications during calls.
To either enable or disable the notifications do the following,
On the home screen tap the Green phone button,
press the 3 Dots on the top right corner,
select "Settings"
select "Call Alerts"
at the bottom of this menu screen you will find the option "Notify During Calls"
Check to see if this is enabled.

Thanks for the help guys. I opted for Textra as it seems to work and provided the solution I was looking for. I will test out invisibleman4u's suggestion as well. Much appreciated again

same issue and I have Textra the paid version and still can't hear.this is getting annoying I just wish I knew how to fix it

open the phone dialer app, tap on the three dots, settings, call alerts and notify during calls should be enabled

I've tried Textra and it works for me. It's in the settings and I made it vibrate as well.

I tried this and I don't know if the volume is so low that I don't hear it but I would always have to look at the phone to see if any new messages came through. I'll experiment with it later again. Thanks for the response as well
