Notification sounds

I got my Galaxy s3 just two days ago, and I've noticed after a certain amount of sms messages get into a thread, my notification sound won't play when I receive an sms from that person and that person only. All the other threads I have open work fine. Is there a certain amount of messages that will cause this? Is there a way to change it? The thread is one that I have never closed on my older phones nor do I plan to now, so this is very annoying and bothersome to me. Anyone help out?

Never heard of them not playing but I know if you have the "Message limit - delete after x amount" checked, it will cut off the notification sound. Do you have that checked?

I tried the above and the only thing that fixed mine was installing a sms app such as Gosms

I fixed it, the delete messages after x amount needed to be disabled.
