Notification without vibrate

I searched the forums and couldnt find an answer to this. I want to set my email/sms notification options so that if the phone sound profile is on normal, i just hear the notification sound (and the phone does not vibrate), and when the profile is on vibrate, receiving a email/sms will vibrate the phone. If I uncheck vibrate in the notification options, i will get the sound, but when the phone is set to vibrate it will not vibrate for an email/sms. Anyone have an idea as to how i can fix this?

Thanks,
John

I would suggest Easy Reminder from the Market. It would give you control over this.

Download Audio Manager and it will allow you to adjust it, I had to download it adjust it to do the same thing once I got it working I then uninstalled audio manager and everything stayed working fine.

lmao, why do people download third party apps for this. in the notification settings just turn off vibrate (that turns off vibrate ALWAYS, unless the phone is set to vibrate). Problem solved.

Thanks for the responses.

Holsum: If I turn off vibrate in the notification settings, the phone will not vibrate for that notification at all anymore, even if the phone volume is turned to vibrate.

That didn't work on my phone which is why I searched for the same problem and found out about the Audio Manager fix. No offense you don't have to agree with why people do this but if your not going to offer a solution why bother posting, he clearly stated in his first post that he had tried that?

Fixed w/ Froyo

Just an update for anyone that is interested: It seems that Froyo brought the option I was looking for to the Evo. If you go to Menu -> Settings -> Sound and uncheck Vibrate (Vibration feedback for calls and notifications), the phone will no longer vibrate for emails and text messages if the volume is turned up. It will only play whatever notification sound you have selected. If you turn the volume to vibrate, the phone will still vibrate when receiving messages or calls.

I'm having a somewhat similar problem. I want the phone to vibrate for notifications when it's in vibrate mode. I have the vibrate option checked in the sound settings, but when the phone is in vibrate mode it still doesn't vibrate. It does when it's in normal mode, but not vibrate. Any ideas what the problem could be?

You can try an app call profiles. I think its like $2.00 but its pretty nice. It lets you set different settings into different profiles. It will even let you set time based rules for switching profiles, or simply use widgets.

I have my phone set to go into airplane mode on monday night when I have class as I don't get reception in that building. Everything but calls on silent at night.

You probably could create two profiles. One for vibrate, and one for volume with no vibrate. However you'd probably have to use profiles to change the volume. If you just changed it with the volume button, it wouldn't go into vibrate mode.

Turns out, I'm just an idiot. No surprises here, haha! I didn't have vibrate turned on under the messages settings. I thought the notifications vibrate setting under "Sounds" applied to texts, too. Guess not!

In my case the vibration notification gets annoying when Im receiving a lot of text, Ive went in and shut off the vibration for calls and notifications but my phone still vibrates on all notifications. what is going on with my evo?

Scott, did you open up the messaging app and go to settings and see if vibration is checked? Or did you do it through main settings?

^^I got it, there was a setting in my handcent app that was set to vibrate that I was overlooking.

thanks a lot. audio manager worked like a charm. i was really irritated by the unwanted vibration on each notification, draining the battery and creating nuisance.
