Notifications - can someone help me sort this out?

FWIW, I'm coming from the DInc and never had issues configuring my notification settings. Now, with the Rezound, I can't seem to get immediate notification when an email arrives. I'm using the GMail app (not the stock Rezound gmail). I'm also using the basic Juice Defender (never used a battery saver app before) on the most basic setting - no tweaking.

I've enabled notifications within the Gmail app itself, and in the phone settings I have Background and Autosync enabled, along with "Push" selected for my peak times.

I still need to open my email and do a refresh to get new mail, and it's then that my notification pops up with my notification tone.

What am I doing wrong here? Also, I might not be totally clear on the meaning of "Push". I've always assumed it meant email is updated as new messages arrive and with notification if the settings are enabled. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

It's juice defender causing your problem. On the balanced setting, it only turns data on every 15 minutes to allow syncing. I would check JD help to configure instant notification.

I believe you can have webmail (Gmail, Yahoo) pushed, but POP3 mail minimum every 5 min (at least with K-9).
