Notifications failing to notify on time

I already to be having an issue where notifications are waiting until I turn my screen on before they notify me instead of the time they are supposed to be pushed. My impression is that android is preventing notifications from working while in deep sleep. I have never had this issue android prior to 6.0. So I don't know if this is specific to 6.0. But it's driving me crazy and I need a solution. If anyone can help me. Thanks.

Sounds like the app you are using needs to be updated for Android 6 and the "doze" feature.
What app is it?
Which carrier?

As far as I can tell all of my apps. I mainly notice it with gmail, yahoo mail, simpsons tapped out, dragons rise of berk, facebook, since the are ones i typically get notified at least once per hour from. Is there anything I can do related to this doze thing? I never heard of it until you mentioned it. Oh and carrier is sprint.

Take a look at the settings under
/settings/general/battery.../battery usage/ignore optimizations/
This is supposed to get doze to allow some apps to keep running. Sometimes it seems to help.
