Notifications - more than 3 visible?

So, I snagged one of the Best Buy special 128 GB 9.7" models last night. One glaring "problem" I'm having is that only 3 notifications are visible until I pull down the notification shade. Is there a way to adjust this?

I think that's a setting under notifications.

Thanks, @Gary_Berg but I'm not seeing it. Do you happen to know the "tap path" for it? I checked all over the advanced settings for notifications (BONUS - I discovered how to rid myself of the awful looking icon backgrounds!).

I had remembered this, but it's not obvious. Had to borrow my wife's S3.

Settings, Display, Status Bar, Show Recent Notifications only.
