Notifications on lockscreen

I've been away from Samsung for a while (Note 3 was my last) and I've been on a non-Lollipop phone for a long time so I don't know if this is is a setting that I can change or something I'll just have to live with. When I wake my phone while locked (pressing the power or home button) I usually like to see my notifications on the notification bar but instead of icons I see "Verizon Wireless" Don't confuse this for me getting a message preview on the lock screen. That's NOT what I want. Just he icons in the notification bar.

Lollipop has gone to notification pop ups. This also removed status bar icons on the lockscreen. Once you unlock the device, the icons should be there. There is no longer the action of seeing a preview of a message when you get the notification.
