Notifications when it's turned off?

Facebook is a big battery hog as most probably know. I turn off all notifications from FB. Don't need to be updated. I just see them pop up when I open the app.

Except when using Android. This plagued me the last time I had a note and I hate it.

I get a little notification icon with the amount of new notifications next to it. I have disabled it and yet I still get this.

Can anyone explain this and how to stop it from happening? Makes zero sense to me.

If this is a fresh install of FB, don't forget to switch auto play to WiFi or off. It defaults to cellular.
