Notifications won't disappear with Nougat. Even after tapping and opening them.

This is beyond frustrating. If I open a gmail notification and read the email, the notification stays in the notification bar even after I've read or archived the email. Minutes later I'll see the notification and think I have a new email when it's the same one I already read. It's not just gmail. It does this with news app push alerts also. If I tap the notification again, it opens it again (or refreshes if already open) and still doesn't disappear. This happened after updating my SG 7 Edge to Nougat.

If you pull down the quick settings menu, on the bottom right corner under the notifications, you should have a dismiss button.... That will clear all your notifications.

Yeah, I'm aware. But I'm not trying to clear all notifications. I just want them to disappear one by one as I tap them. That's the way it's always been. I know this isn't just me. I've seen a few other questions online about this, but I'm not sure if it's a bug or just the way Nougat is designed. Pretty sure there's nothing in settings that will fix this. I've looked everywhere.
