Notifications

I would recommend playing around with the device a little bit more before posting questions like this and starting up a new thread for every single question.

Notifications: Settings ---> Sound & Display
Gmail: Gmail Application ---> Menu Button ---> Settings
Calendar: Calendar Application ---> Menu Button ---> More ---> Settings

From the main screen click the menu button, go to settings, sounds and display, and there you will be able to change notifications for texts and phone. For emails, go to email app (say gmail), click the menu button, and settings, there you can change notifications.

You can also customize ring tones for individual contacts - one of the options available when editing the person's profile.

Thanks - and I had played around with it somewhat - and wasn't finding it.

Gimme a break, I've come from a Blackberry - which is totally different :( and I only had that for a year.

I still haven't figured out how to get ringtones in where I can use them for text messages, etc. They don't seem to be showing up as an option when I know they're on the phone...they only show up in the actual ringtone list.

SMS is going to use the Notification sounds, different than ringtones.
Android has 4 types of tones:
Ringtones
Alerts
Alarms
Notifications

You can create the same folders on your sdcard and put any ogg, mp3, mid file in there and they will show up.

Great...so let me see if I get this right...since there is no option of where to save a downloaded music file, I have to put my SD card in (or plug in the phone via USB) and save them in files for each individual type?

I found the notification folder, and added some to it - and they aren't showing up...it was in media>audio

I added a ringtone folder in the place where the notifications folder is, and added some files there also, and I'm still not seeing them...

Something isn't right...and I AM computer literate, BTW ;)

Like roberte1342 said, you create new folders on the root of your SD card and place your downloaded files there. Then they will show up in the list.

OK...nevermind...I see that the phone must be disconnected from the computer before they show up - however, not ALL of the ones I added are showing up. Why would that be? They're the same types of files as the ones that do show up...strange!

So, what's the difference between an alert and notification?
