One of my co-workers has a Verizon-branded Nexus 6. He is still awaiting the Nougat update. I flashed my 6P using the OTA from Google and have offered to help him with his since I have the tools on my computer to do it. Is there a down-side to doing this? Will we render his phone useless since it's Verizon-branded or will it just take the standard OTA file in stride?

Thanks

I think it will work fine, but it's a lot easier to get 7.0 on the N6 by signing up for the Android beta. That's what I did, and I received the "OTA upgrade available" notification within 5 minutes of signing up.

I haven't confirmed, but I read that this method yields the same build as side-loading the OTA. I believe that when VZW eventually unleashes 7.0 to their N6 masses, the beta-obtained OSs won't skip a beat. They'll essentially be the same as the regular OTAs.
