Nougat won't keep Basic Display Mode

So far my Nougat update hasn't been too painful but one thing that's driving me nutty is it's random switching to Adaptive from Basic display modes. (Don't judge I like realistic colors!)

I turned off the Video Enhancer feature and sometimes after using an app like Pocket casts or YouTube when I wake my screen it's gone back to hyper color.

The strangest part is in my Display settings it still says Basic, but I have to select a different mode then select Basic again for it to work revert back.

I've emptied the boot cache and restarted and it still happens. Anyone else notice this?
