Nougat

I'd say thank your lucky stars! If I had the option to NOT update my S7 again, I would refuse!!!

I have only had AT&T 7.0 for a couple of days and I am simply amazed at how they seem to change what is good and works into something cumbersome.:(:- I am sure there are other User Unfriendly functions that have changed, but here are the first two that I noticed.

1) Contacts: Used to be that you brought up a contact it would list all available numbers for this person or place. Not any more! Now you have to select Details to select the number you want to dial.

2) Blocking a caller requires similar type multi step. Again through Details to Block.

Stay Tuned - More to follow!

I must have mellowed with age... I noticed the Contacts thing too but it just rolled right by... didn't really bother me that much. When you get to be 67... "whatever" becomes a keyword!!!

Blocking a caller was always a multi-step process for me, unless I was doing something wrong? Oh, and in "medium" battery saver mode, I had 38% at 10:30 PM last night, after taking the phone off the charger at around 5 am. I didn't excessively use FB yesterday but did have it open on several occasions. Still never went above 3% in the usage manager. Not exceedingly great compared to what some of you folks get. But pretty good compared to my normal battery stats.

So far , Android 7 seems to be the best one released . Looking forward to the release for our S6 Active on our second line, sometime in the future.

This update has completely changed how I feel about my phone for the better! I'm finally getting the amazing battery life everyone else has. Facebook has gone from like 20% down to 3% consistently, regardless of heavy use. I'm no longer counting down the days (well...years, lol) until I get a new phone.

Really Happy for you... I know you went through a rough patch there with some odd, unexplainable crap going on with the battery life. Glad Nougat took care of it and that you're happy with it!!!

EDIT: I should add, "Live Long and Prosper, bkrell"

Hah! Thanks! Yeah, don't know why my apps didn't play happy with Marshmallow. But Nougat seems to have been the cure for whatever was ailing it.

I wouldn't ask at this point... just enjoy. Hey, I just got Google Assistant working... another Plus to Nougat. Now I have to start the process of training it I guess and see how good it gets. There was an article on the regular Google page that tells you how to go to Playstore and sign up as a Google Beta Tester, that gets you the correct Google Play Services version then the Google App itself asks you to "Update" and Voila', you have Assistant! Pretty cool... I'll see if I can find the link to the article if you're interested.

I got Nougat today. I had to go to the Samsung area at the local Best Buy to get the update, as expected.

Pleasantly surprised. The settings are much easier to access and find (as opposed to the endless side scrolling from before). I am sure this superior method was present on much older Androids I had, because it is familiar. But Samsung seems to have had the clunky side-scroller for a long time until now.

Clean Master? Wasn't that the name of some sort of pointless malware that ad-paid apps tried to force on everyone? AndroidPit identifies it as malware to get rid of completely:

https://www.androidpit.com/android-apps-you-should-remove-immediately

Now it is built in... *shrug*. But it seems to work better than other such things before, and instead of taking 15 minutes to find out what is taking up what in memory under Marshmallow, it takes about 20 seconds.

My launcher is Nova, and I expected things to be pretty much destroyed by Nougat. Instead, my widgets were disabled, and the "dock" area was decimated. It didn't take long for me to fix this back, and this Nova Launcher repair is the sum total of me having to fix something after the Nougat update.

Now, I hope my S7 Active is ready to go another year, before I even start to consider a Pixel Second Gen, an iPhone (only if they make IOS as good as Android instead of crippled too much of the time), or even an LG.

Yeah, since the Nougat OTA, the correct version of Google Play Services was installed which makes it easier to get the "Assistant" App installed. You have to go to Play Store and ask to get on the Google Beta Program, then after about 10 or 15 minutes, the app updates from regular Google to Google Assistant! There's a couple of articles you can read on how to do it... just, you guessed it... Google it! "Google Assistant for all phones"

Well, sad to say....battery life has gone into the toilet.:(

After about a week of bliss, now it seems even worse than before. I know I've had a couple of facebook updates but that doesn't seem to be the culprit. Android OS is consistently the highest percentage of battery drain. With fairly low usage, I'm at 47% 11 hours after taking it off the charger. A week ago, I was still at least in the 60s at this point in the day. That's w/ medium powersaver on. I did re-enable the gear app and the s-health app because I found out there were some updates for my gear s2 watch I'm no longer using. But when I started suspecting they were the culprit, I disabled them. I've had two restarts since then and no change in battery life. So...who the heck knows? Oh well, fun while it lasted.

Here's my results since removing from the charger Friday night at 11:15 PM and it stayed off the charger until Monday at 3:00 PM (Screenshot is from Sunday @ 1:53 PM) - Battery was at 23% NOTE: I must add - I am also running Greenify!

Well, that's depressing!

Yeah, I truly don't understand... but again, I don't do near as much in a day as you do either. The phone sits a lot of the time... I tell you, Greenify has made a hell of a difference. It's a PITA sometimes because it turns things off sooner than you might wish but it also saves battery on things you might normally forget about, running in the background. All I had to do was tell it things I DIDN'T want it to shut off and then let it do it's thing - battery has been MUCH better since firing it up!

I downloaded Greenify when I saw your post and have only lost 10% since then. I had run it once before and wasn't impressed. But for now, it seems to be working.
