Nov security update

Verizon model Pixel 6, with a Verizon SIM. I did receive Magic Eraser but still on the October security update. It's strange that some phones won't pull the November update yet.

It looks like no one with an Unlocked P6 on Verizon has received the November update. It appears that Verizon is holding it back for some reason.

Not sure, I guess. I bought the 6 Pro Verizon version from the Google store. Financed through Verizon.
Then you have the Verizon version not the Unlocked version, which is why you got the update.

I don't have an unlocked model, I have the Verizon model. And still no November update.

Update was already running in the background as I was setting the device up.

Unlocked pixel 6 pro purchased via Google.

Can the carrier block unlocked Pixel updates?
Yes it's pretty common, we see all the time happen with useless T-Mobile. Even with Google store unlocked for example if you have TMobile sim updates sometimes used to be delayed.

So yeah crappy carriers can delay updates on pixel. I hate the carriers but Google has to be blamed as well for bending over back to them. No option I guess since people here are used to only buying from carriers.

Can you elaborate on this, AFAIK carriers don't control software on unlocked phones. The updates come directly from the oem for unlocked devices purchased via the oem. How is TMobile able to block this when they don't push the updates to unlocked phones.

This is why there are posts about unlocked phones not having specific network features of carrier locked phones. Those are built into the update the carrier pushes to it's devices.

TLDR version:
Pixels still go thru carrier certification process irrespective of you bought unlocked from Google store or carrier models.

Long story:

I only buy unlocked phones (hate carrier models) and have always bought only Google store Pixel/Nexus etc. And I have seen many many instances where updates are not available on my phone on the same day because I was using T-Mobile sim for example. I could also force the update by changing to a different carrier sim and recheck for the update. For example, let's say Verizon has certified the update then I can just remove my TMobile sim and put in even an inactive Verizon SIM and it'll pull the update.

Very long story: (Read the carrier involvement section)

Does this process apply to other OEM's, over in the s21 thread this seems to not be the case for unlocked samsung devices.

Also thank you for this information I learned stuff today!

Yes I have had every US unlocked Samsung phone direct from samsung.com and the carrier certification process also applies to US unlocked models bought directly from Samsung.

I've had Pixels since the OG Pixel 1 on Verizon. I can definitely confirm on multiple occasions that Verizon held up monthly security update when everyone else got them on time. Maybe there was a good reason that most of us weren't aware of, I just know it happened. When I got my first Pixel, that is one of the things I wanted, to not have the carriers hold updates, yet it happened. Not that often, but it happens.

Good to know, I am working on transitioning to unlocked devices. The s22 is going to be purchased via Samsung and not TMobile. So over all the carrier bloat and terrible update schedule.

IMO consider buying a direct US Samsung unlocked model if you want the clean bloat free experience as Samsung intended. You aren't getting any faster updates and in fact many times carrier Samsung models have gotten updates faster than the official US unlocked models. For me I always buy US unlocked models direct from OEM because I want to buy the phone as the manufacturer intended and not some useless carrier with their bloat and ugly carrier boot logos.

FWIW - for Samsung phones you can buy carrier models and then using ODIN you can flash the US unlocked firmware to basically make it US unlocked firmware experience. If you are into it, I'm not since I have the option to buy the US unlocked and I do that.

My wife's unlocked Google purchased P5A and my Verizon P5, both phones are on T-mobile, we got the November update today. We were still on Verizon last month, the September 1st update for my P5 was around two weeks after Google released it.
