I've been having intermittent issues where sometimes the voice command "Ok Google" works on my pixel 3, but other times it does not.

I am using Nova launcher and noticed that there is a setting in Gestures & Inputs to turn on "Ok Google" hot word.

Does it need to be turned on? Right now, I do have it off with Google's own setting on. Ok google does work, but like i mentioned, sometimes it does not.

Please advise,
Ryan

I don't use Nova launcher these days but I'm sure somebody will come along that does. An alternative to waiting for that would be to disable the Nova launcher and see if the issue remains the same.

I'm currently using Nova and also saw that setting. I left it off since that was the way I found it and "OK Google" seemed to be working fine.
Don't know how often you're having the issue but occasionally I need to repeat the command. It's not 100% perfect certainly in my experience anyway.
I have 8 various launchers I rotate thru and all work as well as any when Saying the "OK Google" command.

Thanks. Being that I am using a google phone, I would assume Ok google should work ALL the time. I've had other android devices where OK google works perfectly. Not sure why on the Pixel it's intermittent?

Is your screen unlocked or is it locked when youre trying to OK GOOGLE? I have no issues with Nova and my phone recognizing OK GOOGLE, as long as the phone isnt locked. I did not set my hot word to be active in Nova.

Both. Like I mentioned, it does work, but sometimes it does not. It will work while it's locked or unlocked. But then it will not work. Hard to replicate when it stops working. I do know, however, that it will stop working when I switch user, which I did post about in another post.

So your's does not respond while your phone is locked? Because mine will.

Technically, and this was talked about many times, on the P3, Google disabled the OK GOOGLE detection during lock screen. If yours is working, it could be because you have Nova set for hot word detection? I havent tried it so maybe I will and see if that works around the lock screen situation. If your Nova isnt set and its still working during lock screen, Id be curious to find out why.

I had not been aware the "ok google" feature was disabled(P3) when the phone is locked. Seems highly counterintuitive. So a phone set down someplace will lock in minutes or less depending on the setting. And OK google won't work without an unlock so no hands free usage? Weird, what's the logic behind that?
If locked with no usage for 4 hours or more(P2)then it needed to be unlocked first. But 4 hours is a reasonable amount of time at least, like overnite.

I dont remember how long I would let my P2 go locked until I would OK GOOGLE it. I just remember I would have it laying somewhere and I would yell across the room for it and it would work.

I think Google decided against the lockscreen functionality as a security measure.

Using OK google while the screen is locked works.. when OK google does work for me. I do not have Nova Setting on for Hot word detection. However, it does not unlock the phone. It just performs simply assistant like what is the time now, weather, etc. and if the phone does need to be unlocked, it prompts me to unlock it. I do have AOD on, if that matters? It is stated in the Google Access with Voice Match that you can assess Assistant any time you say "OK google", even if your screen is off or you're using your favorite apps.

Weird. Is your phone on the charger at this time or off of the charger?

EDIT: You know what? I just realized my whole thing is that it does not "unlock" the phone anymore, but it does work from the lock screen. Thats what I was originally thinking but somehow got derailed looking at other posts. Yes, there have been only a couple times where it didnt react to me saying OK GOOGLE. A reboot fixed that.

Same. Reboot usually fixes it, or, I noticed that Google Voice Assistant was turned off.. automatically? Which was why sometimes when I say OK google, it did not respond. Still trying to figure why it does that.

And yes, it will wake the phone up, but will not unlock.
