Nova Launcher on Android Pie S9 Plus

I'm using a Galaxy S9 Plus. Recently I was forced to upgrade to the Pie which kind of sucks compared to 8. I kind of wonder what kind of idiots make such awkward changes to the OS that was much more user friendly.

Anyway now that I have upgraded I'm forced to look for a workarounds. In that sense I read that Nova Launcher can give me some redress.
1. Could you elaborate the functionalities ?
2. Will it work well with my Galaxy S9 Plus with the last updated version of Nova being May 2018 ?

It will work, but it won't change anything that Pie changes. Launchers only make the homescreen and app drawer more customizable and allows use of icon packs from the play store. Depending on which part of Pie you want changed, I doubt it would be the answer.
I am actually using Nova Prime on Pie. I am on the Nova beta program though, last updated Feb 11 2019.
