Nova Launcher Prime is $0.25! Did that sway you to install?

+1 on that...

Who could pass up some of these apps for a quarter? Even if you don't use it today there maybe a reason for it later down the road...

Which is why I bought it. Have no need for it right now but it was only a quarter. :D

You guys prefer Nova over Go? If so, please say why..

I figured fi for 25 cents i'll save it for a rainy day But have no immediate plans to change my n7 at this point.

I'm using Go on my Gingerbread-based Thunderbolt and like it there. I don't know why I didn't like it on my Nexus 7 since it's such a nice launcher, but for some odd reason it just didn't feel right or something. Can't put my finger on it, since I adore it on the Thunderbolt...

Just a quick mention - no need to setup screens - nova will import your layouts from other launchers

I discovered that about 3 seconds after spending all the time to add all my apps to Nova's home screens. D'OH!

I bought it and I'm glad I did. The way I look at it is that it's an extension of what stock jellybean should have. Just more options instead of a total redesign.

I love the sort option in drawers. Wish it would sort icons by name on the home screen though. I also don't like that the home soft key gives u a mission-control look of all the home screens u have. Want it back like it was in the stock launcher. Perhaps there's an option buried somewhere.

Anyway I'm glad I got it.

In my previous post I said I bought Nova because it was only $0.25. But like the OP, I was reluctant to use another launcher. I felt standard Jelly Bean was great, and didn't really understand how my tablet experience could be improved (despite all the glowing reviews, the screen shots and the video). Plus, I didn't know what effect a different launcher would have on my system or on the stock launcher (I didn't want to have to setup my home screens again if I didn't like Nova).

Thanks to user Ragnarokx, who explained that a new launcher is basically another app, and I could revert back to my unaltered stock launcher at any time, I finally took the plunge. And after taking this plunge .... I can finally see the light!!

Wow! Now I understand, and absolutely love Nova Launcher Prime (I'm sure I'd be impressed with some of the other top launchers, too).

What? I can do this and that and this other thing now? Cool! Here's what I find most useful:
I can have more than 5 home screens. (Watch out widgets, here I come!)
I can have my home screens in landscape mode.
I can have more than one dock page.
I can edit the (sometimes too long) app names under their shortcuts.

Other things I like are customizing the app drawer (so that's what that's called), screen gestures to perform common functions, and lots of cosmetic changes in how the pages turn, their speed, etc. It's not perfect, of course. Occasionally the stock launcher appears for no apparent reason, and once in a while it seems to lags, but only temporarily. But overall I love it and have made it my default launcher. Why didn't you guys tell me about this earlier? ;) (Yeah, I know, I should have tried the free version.)

So yes, the Google Play sale swayed me to buy Nova. But had I known a couple months ago what I know now, I would have paid full price!

Anyone know of a site or collection of icons/folder backgrounds specific to the Nexus 7 resolution? The themes I'm finding for nova are ugly looking on these screens.

I would switch back and forth between Nova and the stock launcher but I'm not spending all my time re-setting up my screens again... :-[
Once you have nova setup the way you like it you can make a backup of your nova settings thus you wont have to re set up everything again when you switch back to nova from the stock launcher
As user Ragnarokx responded to me, and which I found to be true, think of the launcher as an app. The stock launcher and Nova are separate from each other. They are independent apps that can't be run at the same time. Changes you make in one have no effect on the other. Once you start up Nova, customize it as you wish, then switch back to stock. Stock will be exactly as it was before installing Nova. Make changes to stock, then switch back to Nova. Nova will be exactly as it was before you made changes to stock. You don't need to back up your Nova settings for this to occur, though backing is is recommended just as it is for any other important data or settings.

I just downloaded this, but I love the vanilla android just the way it is. My home screens are perfect. Is it possible for me to not change a thing and just add landscape mode?
Yes, pretty much. Customize Nova so that is gives you the same experience as stock Jelly Bean, but implement the screen rotation feature. Of course, I think once you see some of the enhancements that Nova offers, you'll likely want to use at least a couple of them.

One thing quick I would like to change though if that when I press the button to bring up all running apps, I still sees the old launcher. Is that because I haven't reset or will that always be there?
That will always be there, at least until the Recent Apps list is cleared. If you go back to the stock launcher, then back again to Nova, the stock launcher will once again appear in the Recent Apps list. Again, think of it as just another app. If you switch to the stock launcher from the Recent Apps list, you'll then notice that Nova is now first in line in the Recent Apps list. You can't get rid of the stock launcher (unless you use a custom ROM, I suppose), as it's part of the operating system.

Does your "rotate clockwise/counter clockwise" gesture work for you? It's not working on mine...
You need two fingers. I find it easiest to use my thumb and forefinger. Move them like you're turning a bottle top.

Nova lets you import your settings, widgets and homescreen layouts!
Thank goodness for this! This made it very easy to mimic my stock launcher layout. However, it's not quite perfect. Widgets are replaced by placeholders. You tap on the placeholder, then a list of widgets shows up, and you choose the widget that you want in that place. If you have a lot of widgets and don't remember exactly which one should be placed into which placeholder, you may want to make a quick diagram before starting. Also, the list of widgets is just that - a list. It gives a description, not a diagram, so if your app has multiple 4x1 widgets, you'll need to guess which one it is.

Additionally, though folders are brought over to Nova in the correct order, and the apps in the folders are correct, the order of the apps in the folders tend to get mixed around. Despite all this, the import function is extremely helpful and time saving.

All stuff I learned after playing with Nova for a couple hours. Hope this helps!

My Google books widget aint working when in landscape mode. Jut disappears. When I rotate back to portrait it comes back. Here's a pic: uploadfromtaptalk1349153004332.jpg

I couldn't help but laugh when I saw it for a quarter. I bought it when it was 2.99 IIRC. No regrets either way though. It's my go-to launcher no matter which ROM I'm using. My only wish is for newer transitions. I'm kind of bored of their selection.

It's might be because it's a 2x3 widget, and there's not enough vertical room in landscape mode because of the other widgets above and below it. Try resizing it to 2x2, though this means the stack isn't as spread out. Or move it to another home screen with fewer widgets.

Tried it. Looked nice but then hung up multiple times before I could finish setting it up. Nothing but stock TW seems stable for me. Sometimes even that hangs, but not as often. Just wish TW had more homescreens for widget real estate.

I downloaded Nova Prime yesterday and I'm loving it so far. It seems pretty stable to. I tried the GO launcher before and it kept freezing! Nova looks good on my Galaxy S2 and brings more functionality to it! Well worth the sale price! :D

But yeah for 25 cents its a No Brainer!

Yeah, it works just fine. I use it to open up my kindle app. Perhaps you should try uninstalling and re-installing.

Man.. I just missed the sale of nova launcher. Im already enjoying the free version. Nova improves the smoothness when sliding on the drawer and desktop it's really cool.

And i just wanna ask, would forcing the rotation and putting into fast performance over animation hurt the nexus 7 in thr long run? Thanks.

I bought it on a lark, because my Amaze has HTC Sense (a good launcher itself), and thought I might like it on my N7. I also bought HD Widgets ... which I've discovered has some very cool features. Together, I can almost mimic Sense on my N7 with the two ... except that there are equivalent widgets for messages using the third party tools. I ... rather like HTC's messages widgets.

Still, the Nova launcher clearly has some features and abilities that I haven't touched. ADW is highly recommended at work, but I figured for 25? it was quite a bargain. (As were many other titles.)

I went ahead and got it during the .25 sale, but I don't use it. I like it for the landscape home screen modes, but I kinda like the plain jellybean ui.

Is there a way for Nova to use the folder system I already have set up with the stock system so I do not have to recreate it?
