Wow. So irresponsible. Because one tech blogger decided to take a photo of some image retention and crank the brightness low enough to see it, suddenly it's burngate??? They understand that stupid people will think this is really a thing, right? Firstly, it's not. Secondly, if it were, you wouldn't know about it unless these morons told you. My og XL had mad screen burn.... That you could only see on a plain white screen with no nav bar...so never.

Yeah, it's really built on its own momentum. The Verge has particularly gone crazy for it. I, for one, am not that worried. Mine arrives today; if it has a terrible burn-in problem, then I put faith in Google and its billions of dollars to make it right. If Samsung can recover from exploding phones and Apple can from phones that can't avoid dropping calls, then Google can make it through this.
Mine is perfectly fine. Been using it since the 19th and nothing. So it's an anomaly... Not a defect.

Its def a problem though. I am glad its getting a lot of attention so google releases better products in the future
Just curious, but why are you so sure it is not a thing? Plenty of users on reddit are showing screen burn in as well, so it is not just reviewers. Plenty of posters here as well. Mine comes tomorrow and I hope it doesn't, but this seems like a pretty big issue to me, and even google has said they are looking into it.
One thing that's nice about the 2:1 screen ratio is that the nav bar burn in is probably off to the side when watching 16:9 videos. The vertical black bars won't show the burn in since the pixels are off in that area.
My 2014 Moto X has a bit of nav bar burn in if I load up a solid grey image, but I've never actually noticed it when watching a fullscreen video etc. The Note 8 I saw in the Verizon Store had horrendous nav bar burn in but that is obviously a harsh environment on all day with the brightness maxed out.

Who is it a problem for? You wouldn't know unless someone told you. Go check a 1st Gen XL. Mad burn. You would never know it since some a-hole blogger didn't mention it, it wasn't a thing.
I still have yet to see a single review that ran a white test on the "burn" to see if it went away.

So because people have to be told to check for it makes it somehow not a problem? That's some interesting logic. Some of the panels are straight defective. A phone that's only been used for 4 days should not have these issues.
If you think this is a problem...nothing will ever be good enough. Complaining about something that doesn't effect usage and is simply a complaint out of principal is just silly.

I can say that it would bother me to no end...especially at close to $1000. After a year or two, I can expect something like this to crop up (usually time to upgrade anyway) but after a few weeks? Nah. I'm hoping it's not really an issue. I've been on the fence between this and the S8+ and I'm definitely leaning the way of Samsung right now until Google offers up something formal.

I just can not believe the piling on this phone from so called "tech reviews" mostly no name fools but I saw like 3 today that are calling the screen "trash" Lmao. They don't even say why or explain in depth. I just find it hilarious that they have written this phone off because of a little blue in the screen and it's not Samsung. Pssss.. To make it worse, they don't say ANYTHING about the overarching point of this phone and that's to have a smooth and well tuned software experience. You know the smartphone tech community has lost their minds when a the prettiest screen in the only criteria for a good phone.

Wait until you go to watch a movie on your phone and the notification bar and nav bar are burned into your screen. Image retention and burn-in suck.
You can't see it on the old XL unless you're watching a flat white or grey screen.
Depends on your level of burn-in and how resistant the display is to burn-in. Bad burn-in will be visible all the time. It will definitely be visible while watching a video since videos don't cover 100% of the screen unless you zoom in.

It IS a problem. No panel should EVER burn in after 4 days of use. That is a DEFECT. It is FLAWED. If it's visible after 4 days, imagine how bad it will be after a year, and it would very much affect usage. The colors and other stuff are a matter of taste; burn in is something completely different.
