Now Playing

I see it all the time at my office. I've seen it pop up a lot while watching Stranger Things (lots of needle drop songs on that show)...that weird fancy cover was id'd at a magic show at a church. Been very impressive.

I love this feature!

if this were the only cool thing about this phone I guess it wouldn't be all that much. But when you add this to the rest of the package, the Pixel 2 is the new jesus phone!

Agreed. Should be online. Seems like it's local only to appease all the paranoid users. Maybe have online id as a feature you can disable.

The problem with "should be online" is that, because the phone is *always* listening, it would be accessing the Internet potentially hundreds of times daily, running *up* your data usage and *down* your battery.

Seems like that could be solved by using the current system to determine a song is playing...use the internal memory...failing that go to internet.

I'd GLADLY let it take up more phone space or even stay connected to the internet to be able to identify any song....

Just turn on Auto Shazam and it will log every song all day long. You won't see it on your standby screen, but for those songs you don't know, Shazam can't be beat.

I've only noticed once when it was unable to identify a song, and I was surprised because it was classic rock. I also didn't realize it was just checking a local file and not the internet. As other have said, wish it was more like a shazam, but maybe google assistant could be used for that function.

Google Assistant absolutely can do that, and just as well as Shazam or SoundHound. Just start assistant, and say "what's playing", or "what's that song". Works great!

Now playing doesn't work for me turned it on and settings, went to YouTube and play top 20 songs didn't hit once
