number next to phone or txt message icon

if I get a phone call or a text message, I go and answer the phone call or read the txt message but when I go back to the home screen the number next to the icon never resets until I restart the phone. Does this happen to anyone else?

hmm I dont know. I have a 1 beside the phone icon. Now, if I go into it, hit menu button and the 1 is still there next to the phone icon

I have actually ran into that and if I remember correctly had to go into Phone>Recent and view the missed phone call to clear the count.
Kind of like having a text that you know is there and haven't viewed yet.

Are you answering/reading via the lock screen? If so, I've seen that happen occasionally using Nova Launcher (Prime), but it's the exception and not the norm. Once I go into either the phone app or into the TM thread the issue goes away.

Sorry I can't help you. This happened to me for a couple of weeks.Email and messaging were affected. Started about a week after I got my phone. Had for like 2 weeks. Really annoying. VZW had a small update but I couldn't verify if this was the reason the problem went away since I wasn't paying attention. Good Luck
