I hate those
dots too. With the Microsoft Launcher, using a 4 column x 5 row grid icon layout, I can get 9 letters per icon even when I use the largest text size and largest icon size available with the app. I can get 12 letters per icon with the smallest text size - I don't always use icon names, but when I do, it's usually so I can get used to recognizing newly changed icons.
So, if you really hate dots - and who doesn't?
- and you used the Microsoft Launcher, you would have the options of limiting the number of letters per icon (up to 12 or so depending on several factors), use numbers instead of letters, or eliminate the text completely.
You could also change the grid layout to allow for more or less icons per screen. I would think that Nova Launcher works similarly.
