Just ordered the Nvidia Shield 2017 and need to know if it will work with my Harmony Remote. I am reading it does not support IR and hope I do not have to send it back.

I got the regular. Have to decide whether to return now and get the pro or stick with Roku. Thank you for the info.

Did you get the "pro" or the regular one? Pro has IR, regular doesn't.

This is correct. I'm glad they left it in the Pro model for those who use it, but can see why it's bothering some people not being in the standard model.

For what it's worth the new Shield Controller and Shield Remote now have IR blasters so they can control things in your entertainment center ... but it's definitely not a replacement for a universal remote.

I'm getting the new controller and remote for my old Shield 500GB

CEC is your friend. Enable it on your SHIELD and your TV and they can work together. Once I was able to do that I ditched my Harmony (which was getting too slow for me anyway).

Had mine this week and the harmony remote works great for me which is good as the TV remote arrived DOA

Mike,
What harmony remote works for you? I have a 650 and it doesn't seem to work when I pick Nvidia Shield as the device. Any ideas?

I just bought the 16GB model and I thought it could be controlled by the harmony 650.

Any help is appreciated,
Thanks,
Chuck

The new 16 GB model has no IR sensor, a Harmony 650, which is IR only, won't be able to control it.

I have the Harmony touch which is IR only. I selected my TV on the Harmony and with CEC controls enabled, I was able to select menu items on the Shield TV. The commands were transmitted from the remote to the TV's IR receiver then to the Shield TV through HDMI. The only thing I don't get is a dedicated button profile for the Shield TV for any special functions, and the mic activation button, or a mic at all.

I think the Harmony Hub has BT ability to the Shield, so use the 650 to IR to the Hub, and have the Hub send BT commands to the Shield TV.

Or you can just set up CEC and control your TV and sound bar with the SHIELD controller or remote. 😎.

Used to love my Harmony Touch, but CEC is faster, more reliable, and doesn't require me to keep a Windows machine around to configure it.

Yes that is (subjectively) true, but the Shield remote; is too small and slips out of my hand, is not backlit, location of the select button and ring should be where the mic button is for better balance, volume should be real buttons.
I only have one HDMI input (that works) on my TV, so I have to have a separate switch box. The Harmony can be programmed to switch between watching cable TV and using the Shield with one button push.
Also, I spent a lot of $ for the Harmony touch, so I'm going to use it for every last cent.

Hi
I have the regular Nvidia Shield (not pro) and the Harmony hub and everything works fine with the Bluetooth !
