my BrotherInLaw's Captivate (froyo upgrade brought the connection problem) also had this problem for the past month.
we just downloaded FXR in the market, the WiFiFix app will show up, ran it--rebooted the phone--and it worked instantly.

give it a try.

If the above does not work reset your router

My wifi was working fine and then I installed a few apps to have a widget that i could easily switch wifi on and off and display what WAP i was connected too. See why for the long story*

My wifi still works at home with no problems, but when I get to work it will connect and try to obtain an IP address and thats where it gets stuck and then disconnects.

We have 2 WAPs at work and it does the same for both. I have had to set a static IP and this is the only way I can connect to it (note DNS has to also be set otherwise it still wont connect). The other guys in the office can use wifi on their android devices with no probs, and multiple laptops are connected too.

Tried FXR, but still no go.
Tried upgrading from Android 2.3.3 to Android 2.3.4 but the same problem still persists.

Any ideas? Didnt want to do a factory reset if possible.

I have 2 WAPs at home and depending where I am on the property depends which one I have to connect to. its a bit of a pain that android doesnt switch to the best wifi signal, even when out of range (no bars on signal) it would stay connected but data wouldnt work, even though I was right next to the other WAP that has full signal android wouldn't switch to it if it could still barely see the other WAP. So I thought a widget where I could see the SSID and then switch wifi off and back on to pick up the better WAP would be just what I needed. I dont know for sure but I think it was the wifi widget app that uses ZDtools that screwed things up.

What are remembered profiles? It says I'll loose them?
They are the previous SSID/Password combos you have connected to. No great loss. Just will have to manually re-slect those SSIDs and re-type the password the next time you connect to them.

Only other thing that comes to mind is that they have the same SSID (i.e. Linksys, Netgear, <other common names>, etc). If there is a SSID out there that is the same as you have connected to before, the device (PC or phone) will try to connect using the same protocol/password as the other same-named SSID. Which can result in what you are describing. Clearing those previous "profiles" will normally fix that issue.

Obviously, changing the SSID on one would also solve this problem. Not sure if this is your issue though.

Also, some routers/clients have a poor encryption implementation. Changing to a different (supported) encryption sometimes can cure this. In fact, even changing the "channel" can sometimes cure this.

Edit: I just read your "the rest of the story" (why). So, I guess same-name SSIDs are not your issue :) Oh well...

no they have different SSIDs at work, but it maybe worth changing them anyway to see if its some resident setting that is associated with the SSID. And i'll give the different channel a try as well.

I did try changing the encryption method but this didnt help.

thanks for your suggestions, its an interesting problem. At least it works using static IP :)

Had the same problem for a long while. Would have to unplug my router, plug back in. When it reset, my TBolt would connect. Seems like it would work for a couple days...then I'd have to do it over again. Oddly, it was only on my home wireless router that I had this problem. Due to issues with another home hardware connection problem with my NetGear router, I had to http:// into my router. I had it check for any firmware updates, and sure enough, I was out of date. I downloaded and ran the firmware to the router...and ever since, I've not had a single problem. Connects immediately.

Bottom line...if it works everywhere else fine (friend's home, starbucks, mcdonalds, etc) just not to your home router....then check the router firmware.

Good luck, and I hope you find this helpful.
