Ahh, I got it now.

CM7 already has Xionia v013 kernal built into the Rom. So your good to go there.

And as I stated before, Reborn has picasticks v7 kernel built into the Rom. This is a good kernal also, and you can overclock with it. But ultimately, yes, you could run Xionia v013 with reborn if you wanted to. But I think you will need to flash the (Experimental AnyKernel Edition).

A main difference between the kernels is Picastick v7 does not have native ext2, ext3, ext4 support even though the change log says it does. So, if you want to use Link2SD, DarkTremor or some other app2sd scheme that requires an ext fs on the second sdcard partition, you will want to flash Xionia v13 experimental, which does have the ext2.ko, ext3.ko and ext4.ko modules loaded into /system/lib/modules. Link2SD may work with a second partition as vfat, though.

Does VPN (PPTP) work with this kernel? I have REBORN 2.2.2 what kernel do I need to fix this issue?

Is flashing the kernel really as easy as it seems in the original post? I recently rooted my OV, and it's still stock. But I'm so glad I rooted.

Just wondering if switching to this kernel would be highly beneficial. How risky is it? And is there any way to go back to the old kernel (or is there any reason I would ever want to anyway?). Also, when flashing the kernel, is everything still intact as far as your settings, apps, etc? Will the phone be exactly as I left it except for the fact that things "under the hood" have changed?

Thanks... Still quite an Android noob!

There's a much more appropriate section for your phone here
EDIT: I just realized that the OV forum links to the Xionia kernel in the OS section... what a maze....

And the OV has the more up to date version of the kernel here

That's everything you need! Just make a choice on your ROM and you're good to go! :D THANK YOU for asking your question in the appropriate thread and not starting a new one!

Yes, everything intact considering it was done right and didn't cause more issues than it fixed. Battery life is a common improvement... Not risky at all if you choose the correct kernel. And, good luck!

You may either use the Picasticks kernel or my XioniaRedux kernel. Zefie's Xionia kernel is outdated but will still work.

Awesome, do you have a link to instructions on exactly what to do? I would really appreciate it cause i tried flashing a kernel before and i bricked my optimus. Luckily sprint gave me a new one, but it's going to look suspicious if i do it again within a couple weeks lol. Thanks so much

Edit: Let me just add that, all i have done right now is...I'm rooted by using Gingerbreak. That's it, so if i have to do something before i flash the kernel, please let me know. There's way to many threads to follow here on how to exactly do this without bricking. Thanks so much

Edit: Ok, I apologize for editing again, lol. The thing i'm most worried about is the fact that i have the newer LCD and when i "bricked" my phone before, i tried to flash the xionia kernel 013. What happened with that is...I flashed and then when it went to reboot, it got stuck on the LG splash. So i tried to boot into recovery and just got the blank black screen. Then i tried like 3 different methods from the forums here to get it going again and nothing worked so i went back to sprint, they ended up just giving me a new phone cause they couldn't fix it. Thanks again

Can't get this recovery kernel to work with Drew's CM7 builds. It hangs at the Sprint Logo FOREVER.

Or is this not for his build, I am running his latest

Build ID: STABLE-002
Mod Version: CyanogenMod-7.1.0.2
Build Date: 08/09/2011

You're looking for the xionia redux kernel, I unfortunately can't link you, on my phone at the moment, but it should be one of the most popular topics right now.

loaded xionia_kernel_013_experimental on my optimus.. Errors on camra and galery, and bluetooth refuses to turn on!!!do i need to retore back or can i install another ontop to fix??? HELP!!

Should be able to flash a new kernel on top to fix.

What Rom are you running? Check the Rom thread for recommended kernels that are compatible.

just rooted it about a week agaid, i had the gingerbread update, had to revert back to froyo to root, had this issue when i went to reinstall gingerbread after rooting, thought it had something to do with the update, and have just left it on froyo, untill now i have this happen.. i just restored back to before i installed the kernel, everything is running again.. any recommendations for kernel to OC?

Just making sure I followed that. You now have stock ZVD rooted and want to overclock?

If that is the case I would suggest [Kernel] Picasticks Simple OC kernel It is based off the LG ZVD source with OC added on. The newer Xionia Kernels were built for Gingerbread/CM7/IHO builds not the LG source.

yes, i'm running stock VD. a few days ago i tryed to install VH, samething happened, no camra and bluetooth. i assumed it had something to do with the new rom, not thinking about the kernel i installed at the same time. so i went back to VD. today i install the kernel and same issue. now i'm starting to think the kernel was the reason i had issue when i went to VH. you say that the kernel was designed for VH? could ithave been something with changing the ROM to VH when i did, or the kernel all along?

No, Xionia is built against the VD radio, but optimized for Gingerbread. So it was built for AOSP or CM7 builds of Gingerbread using the VD radio. If you flashed it with the Stock Gingerbread with the VH radio it will definitely cause problems. Check the Sticky thread Sprint Optimus guide to Rooting, ROMs, Recoveries & Themes for links to all the latest Rom's, kernels etc.
