Odin System Dump

Hey guys, I'm new to android, but I really want to root my Fascinate when I get it (it's on its way). I'm all for rooting my phone, but I'm slightly worried about going back to stock since froyo is due to come out anytime, seeing Captivate's froyo got leaked.
(Also, people have been saying their phone got unrooted and couldn't reroot in the how to root thread).

The thread on going back to stock says to use Odin to flash the stock system dump then remove the su, busybox, and Superuser.apk, but the link in the thread is broken and I'm kinda paranoid, so I was wondering if there was a way for me to make a system dump of my stock Fascinate (using Odin or maybe some other tool exists).

Also, I was wondering if performing the dump before rooting the phone would be different from performing the dump after root. Because if it is different, I'd really like to get a system dump of the UNrooted phone, so that I can flash to go back to 100% stock Fascinate from Verizon.

Odin doesn't require root?

Hey guys, in the umm two days since I wrote the original post, I've been looking around about rooting, project voodoo. I was under the impression that the phone had to be rooted in order to connect with Odin (going into download mode) but I also saw some posts that said voodoo didn't requre root to perform.

So, I guess my question is this: can I perform Odin backups and flashes without having the phone rooted? Also, if I wanted to do a complete backup of the phone, how do I do it via Odin. How would I later restore the backup to the phone?

p.s. I know, project voodoo isn't available for the Fascinate yet orz.. I hope it comes soon!!!
