[Official] Blackberry Convert Thread

I'm coming over from the 9650 Bold. I thought i would end up missing the keyboard, but I've tried typing on an EVO and honestly, i think I'll adjust quickly. I've even got the keyboard app already picked out. and reading this thread made me realize that I haven't even gotten my app set for transfer. time to start looking.

Hello all:

I'm coming from a Tour with a crappy trackball. Waiting patiently for TB, but I scored a DINC to try in the interim while my contract expires.

Thanks so much for starting this thread and to all you experienced Android users who are pitching in to help us Android newbies. I don't have mine yet but I hope to have the TB soon - IF they ever let us buy the darn thing, LOL! I will be checking this thread over at that point.

I would also like to say that all the people who have been members here before me have been very helpful and have been helpful without being snotty or uppety or anything else negative. Very refreshing and appreciated :)

BB to android convert...never looked back. I use Handcent for messaging...like it better than stock. Qik is similar to bbm but not as good, if you feel you need to have something similar. HANDCENT is fine for me.

As soon as the TB lans, I'll be a storm-->TB convert. I got my business partner to convert months ago (to a Droid X) and my wife got an ally awhile back (again it was my doing). Unfortunately, I wasn't able to upgrade until after both of them...so I got them to switch to android an I haven't been able to myself yet. Doh.

Storm 1 can't wait to ditch this junky "click" screen... Seriously dropped the ball on that on RIM, I mean dead spots everywhere... Who would have though you could develop a touch screen that didnt respond to touch, THE most evil thing in the world.

That being said who else has a BB thats going bonkers the closer we get to the 24th?

While the tbolt will have a notification light, my fascinate doesnt, so when I switched I got the app NoLed... I like it much better than the light flashing. Would recommend checking it out

Also, the app whatsapp can be used on android, bb and iphone. Like bbm (uses data instead of texts, has fun smileys and extras). I use it to keep in touch with my bb friends who wont give up bbm

Same here. I have 9650. The browser is terrible. A dial up connection on a PC could load a page faster than the 9650. Also the browser is difficult to use. I can't wait the the TB to be realeased so I can get rid of the piece of garbage I have now.

Thats why i switched from my bold. Best buy had free phone fridays and I got the fascinate, figured why not, I could always return it. First thing I did was check out the browser. Light years ahead of BB. I was sold.

Question to the Android users and converts ... BlackBerry has a "Bedside Mode" that I use every night, and really would like something similar. For this, I have it set such that when I plug in for overnight charge, the phone automatically goes to "Bedside Mode" where no aural or LED notifications will occur (for email, calendar, etc.) except for a phone call. In essence, "Bedside Mode" disables the notifications and sets the sound profile to whatever you want (which I have set to "Phone Calls Only"). Seems like a simple feature, but it's something I really rely on every day.

There's an app called Bedside (Night Clock) on appbrain. This is probably the one that will work for you.

Also, check out Profiles and Silent Time Pro

All of those apps are in the link I posted above.

I currently have a Blackberry Curve 8330. My Verizon contract expired clear over a year ago and I was waiting for an iPhone to come out for Verizon. When I finally saw the specs on the Verizon iPhone (not 4G phone, etc) I got fed up and started exploring Android phones. I really liked what I saw and had it been any earlier I probably would have gotten a Droid Incredible. When I saw the Thunderbolt, I knew that was the phone I wanted.

So here I wait. :D

+1 to all of these points. It's like you wrote this for me, NY Reco!

It was an easy decision once I really started doing the research and comparing iOS to AOS. Can't wait to get my hands on the Bolt! :D

Same here. That was one of the 1st ones I looked for an app to replace. I have Nightstand Bold in my list to download but the ones Chrisy suggested look good as well.

From what I am told (work with a guy that has the EVO) its hard to find in HTC sence. but he got CMod and he said it was no problem to find, guess it would be a feature of the mod but i dont know.

Coming from a storm1 purchased on day 1 I am looking forward to the move. I worry most about email & battery drain. I understand that you can manage the things that drain the battery, and will do so.

Anyone have advice on the best way to set up email? Here is what i believe to be true. Gmail is the only stock true push. You can send all of your accounts (4 for me including gmail) to gmail and they will push to your phone.

- what do i miss by only using the gmail app (as opposed to sense's email client), and do i really want all of my email going through google / gmail?

If i set up email through sense i loose push and need to poll every x minutes. none of my servers are corporate (currently BIS) i have hotmail gmail and two imap through my hosting provider.

also, any advice on temporarily putting my thunderbolt in a blackberry case with a magnet?

I am starting to see a pattern. I'm coming from a Storm 1 that I've had since launch day. I'm on my 3rd replacement phone and I'm limping this one along until I can get the ThunderBolt. There are dead spots in my phone so I can barely even reply to text messages. I almost bought the iPhone but then realized how dumb that would be given that there'll probably be a new one in July. Started to check out some of the forums and what people can do with Android and am hooked.

Buying two Xoom's and a Thunderbolt on the 24th. Well, hopefully the Thunderbolt actually comes out then. I'm putting all my eggs in the Android basket :P

My tour knows its End of days is near, Its acting up daily. I cannot wait for the TB.. My GF couldnt wait and ended up with a Droid X.
