Run CM6 until CM7 is stable?

CM6.... how stable is it? It was CM6 that killed my last EVO... Mind you it was the nightlies and not a final, but I don't know if I can trust it... what's broken in CM6? Does 4G work, GPS work... could you point me to the latest / greatest version please. Thanks bud!

The WiMax drivers are still in alpha. You can get them from xda-developers if you so desire. Other than that, everything works in CM6. It's very solid.

Ok finally I'll ask for help posting here do not want to clog xda

TO BIG RICK AND OTHER SENIOR MEMBERS

Ok so after some thinking yesterday I decided to plunge back into the addictive world of android roms.

See, I had an optimus s and I flashed thunderom with different kernals and different build prop/stage-fright combos and had a bunch of fun overclocking (2200 quadrant) and having control but I needed a bigger screen and we get 4g in the hood like crazy for some reason! I opened up a new line this month and decided to go with evo 4g(004). So I rooted using the unrevoked and it gave me nand access. Then I just disected it and got the bloatware out (blockbuster, etc you know) and set up under clocking profiles with setcpu, used the clear cache widget, and other shenanigans with titanium backup.

So moving on- after researching I went with the CM 6.1.2 alpha2 and accompanying kernal(even though it is not really clear if camera issues are fixed with 004 and whether or not another kernal is needed to fix this). I kinda got intimidated by the whole wimax backup and went with amon ra recovery instead of clockwork-actually I made both but I went into amon image. In recovery I wiped all data except battery stats and flashed the alpha 2 build, then flashed the kernal. I rebooted and just got white htc. So I wiped davlik as mentioned and still same thing. so NAND restore and then again alpha2 flash(no kernal), reboot, and then I am in boot loop. Wipe davlik. Still boot loop.

Now just so you guys know I finally flashed MAGNUS's CM7EX9lite and even though it had (imo) some limitations and FC's, it still flashed in amon ra and I restored all apps etc.. I tried to live without the 4g and was ok till I wanted youtube video of powder toast man and even then the breaking point was losing the crt effect after flashing the update(I think, still figuring that one!).

So ultimately my question is.... why am I having trouble flashing CM alpha2?

Should I try 6.1.2 and then try alpha? Does it have something to do with the rom type?

Also and please I know this is an issue and a two part question but how do the nightlies compare to one another right now? Which one feels better than others?

Thanks in advance to all that come forward with input and add as little sarcasm as possible. Seriously, I don't want anyone to flash my phone-I just need some input and help with solving the problem.

Oh and btw...I had two NAND backups and I think I was in USB debugging mode. Don't know if that even makes a difference but I wanted to add it to the log of known facts.

Thanks @gksmithlcw for the help.... CM6 is pretty solid, I do wish CM7 didn't have the GPS issues. I do notice a difference in performance between the two Rom's thats for sure.... 2.3 is just snappier.... I was very impressed. I know it was a Rom and still had it's bugs, but I really felt like its the first time Android just felt solid.... On another note.... I know I'm only a beginner member here and I'll do more to post here (androidcentral.com). I typically post / spend my time at phandroid... both good site, phandroid just seems to go down to often for my tastes. Thanks again brother!

I have been Running CM 6 for the last month or so, and I was very impressed. I just flashed CM 7 (14) last night, and it is very solid so far! I see 15 was uploaded, but I am not sure what the changes were, so I have not flashed it yet.

For some reason Car Home keeps popping up without me doing anything i even Uninstalled it and it keeps popping up :/ I might just go to another rom for awhile

Try Miui if you switch. Its unlike any other rom you've seen. And very fast.
